Release schedule 2014 - correct?

Post by Lorimez » Wed Oct 29, 2014 5:57 pm

Hi all. :)

Given that it is pretty much November and the release schedule still has four products listed as due for release this year (Rivendell, Players companion, Ruins of the north and Horse-lords of Rohan), how likely are we to see this schedule kept too?

Has there been any official comments yet?

I only ask as I'm starting this game in January and trying to work out what I may have access to come that time as well as budgeting for it!

Thanks

Gary

You may be confused by publishing 'months'/ 'seasons'. Publishers Autumn 2014 runs through the end of 2014. Publishers Winter 2014 runs through mid March and Publishers Spring 2015 is April through June. The publishing industry has an odd concept of time. Note that the cover month of many magazines is the month they come off the shelves rather than when they go on things like that.

I don't expect to see the Rohan supplement pre-order until about Easter 2015 for example.

They've been following it all year.

Whatever the case, Ruins of the Nort is next.

I don't know about Horse Lords, which is scheduled for Winter and could be on pre-order in january or february, but I guess from previous experience that you'll have Ruins and Adventurer's Companion in PDF before january.

I am most interested in the Players Companion, it would be great to have a pdf of it before I start my new campaign next year!!!

Oh that reminds me, Dear Santa... :D

Different publishing houses work on different schedules. Some only have a Spring-Fall-Winter schedule, some use two, or all four seasons etc. . The traditional reasons to have publication lists in seasons aren't really relevant for C7, though. Printer, editor, freelancer time across the lines is likely more pressing than visiting independent book dealers to sell them on the upcoming list. http://www.publishersweekly.com/pw/by-t ... asons.htmlis a decent link about how mainstream publishing seasons work if you wanted to read more.

Irrespective, C7 announced two books as coming in Autumn, which is commonly taken to be Sept-Nov. I think C7 have had a great turnaround on past years with TOR in getting the three books released this year out on time (in pdf at any rate) and it would be a shame for that to slip without communication.

We don't want to let facts get in the way of a good rant about C7's publishing schedule. Nothings starts a good multi-page thread off with a bang like people complaining about how their favourite work from C7 is being dropped or displaced by something they don't care about. I could go on about how Rocket Age is getting all the attention compared to One Ring and I don't like it one bit and what about some World War Cthulhu, I've seen nothing about the next release for that just stuff concerning Keltia and Yggdrasill which is something I'm not interested in.

Psychotic rant parody over, back to your usual programming.

I do find it ironic that people post, in effect, "I love your products so much that I'm going to go online and talk trash about you."

I think there's a huge difference between "I love your products so much that I'm going to go online and talk trash about you." and 'I want more books to come out'. Or, in this case 'I want to see C7 and the one ring line do better'.

Any reasonable look at the release schedule over the past few years would agree that there's been a big difference between what was predicted to come out and what actually made it. This year seems to have turned around, so taking C7 at their word and expecting books to come out when (or close to when) they're announced isn't an unreasonable expectation. They're a long way from the likes of Palladium with release schedules being entirely fictitious but 2012-2013 release schedules were definitely not accurate.

I think the hostility towards the OP for daring to want to know if the books announced for Autumn were actually going to come out in Autumn is pretty unwarranted.
