Where are all the clubs and maces?
Re: Where are all the clubs and maces?
Bullroarer Took is the first (canon) use of a club - and on horseback - my only question is whether it was a No.1 Wood or a No. 3, as it wasn't an iron, and he seemed to have no handicap either.

Re: Where are all the clubs and maces?
Slightly off-topic but I didn't want to start a new post (or revive a dead one).
I just realized the problem with introducing throwing axes into the game: Prepared Shot. With the high Injury of Axes, automatic Pierces would be devastating.
Maybe the additive Encumbrance of all those axes would make it impractical for Rearward Stance and more of an opening volley weapon, but if you're making all Prepared Shots you only need half as many of them...
P.S. And now I'm envisioning a nasty Hobgoblin axe thrower who uses exactly this strategy...

I allow for throwing axes, but it is just used the same way as a spear in opening volleys. No one has asked to carry 3 or 4 axes to use them from rearward.
In fact, the idea came from watching the series Vikings and seeing how they used the same handaxe for melee and to finish off the running foes.
In play, only the dwarf who has (Axes) as weapon uses them: he has a handaxe for opening volleys and then switches to his Battleaxe.

Yeah, it threw me for a loop when Brazen Armour mentioned clubs as a weapon type. But then I realised that they must have been thinking of troll weapons.Dunheved wrote:Bullroarer Took is the first (canon) use of a club - and on horseback - my only question is whether it was a No.1 Wood or a No. 3, as it wasn't an iron, and he seemed to have no handicap either.

Check out page 30 in the Rivendell book. That is Brandobas Took and his famous club which he ended the wars with and invented the sport of golf.

Perhaps it could have 'invent new sport' as a Called Shot?Khamul wrote:Check out page 30 in the Rivendell book. That is Brandobas Took and his famous club which he ended the wars with and invented the sport of golf.

Unfortunately for aspiring Hobbit golfers like Bullroarer, Gandalf seems to be able to play an Eagle whenever he is in a tricky spot....
