Endless Arrows?

Post by jmartinclass » Mon Jan 05, 2015 2:47 pm

Hi, I'm new here.

I've been playing TOR for a year now, and one Elf of my group is like legolas using longbow, As a Loremaster I never thought about the arrows amount. So it's like the elf have endless arrows.

How do you treat this issue? If there is a rule I think I passed and can't find in the books now.

Thanks a lot

AFAIK, there is no official rule. Most of the time, small fights are short enough that you don't have to care about counting the arrows. In a longer fight, you could rule that a failed roll with a Sauron means the elf has run out of arrows. This is how they do it in the new Star Wars game, and it works fine.

It's up to the Loremaster as to whether he wants to track ammunition. The game assumes players aren't interested in this level of detail, but if you want to, go right ahead.

If you want to micromanage your arrow, assume a quiver of 20 arrow at hand and 40% used arrow are retrievable.
Nothing of Worth.

How does one roll 40% with TOR dice...?

Sucks to roll a Sauron on your first shot.

Consider Dungeon World model: ammo 3 (or so) each Sauron reduces ammo by 1.

Roll the Feat Die. If you get 1–4, you get the arrow back. If you roll 5–10, you don't. If you roll an Eye or Gandalf, roll again.

Or roll 16 or less on five Success Dice (with no Feat Die). That's close enough.

Roll 2D6, on 8+ you have a close from 40% (15/36, so 41.6% :) )

Don't be silly- no need to do this on a per-arrow basis. Keep track of how many arrows you shoot throughout the battle. AFTER the battle, assume you manage to retrieve roughly half of them. If you want to do exactly 40%, use a calculator. No dice rolling needed. If you flee the battle, assume you lose them all.
