But i must say this is very good discussion, which i think IS productive, since it helps less experienced ToR players that really dont know the feeling of Tolkiens world or books, films etc, to evaluate what they want for their games, even if they dont want to use whatevers being said in the thread.

Why bother tracking treasure encumbrance at all? Players (that I've seen) typically just give it to their king so the can get their standing and move on.

5 person party finds 60 points of treasure. "Great, we all take 12 and give it to our kings so we get standing."

Because you've still got to lug it back to the town/village/homestead/cave where your people live so you can invest it during a fellowship phase. It you've got more adventure ahead of you before the fellowship phase and you don't have points or trustworthy porters, you have to carry the treasure yourself.

If it's a lot of treasure, or if you're got too much adventure ahead of you, you can try hiding the treasure somewhere.

Players can declare when a fellowship phase is. So they just go back to their towns and invest it, declaring a fellowship phase immediately.

Only in the event of time sensitive tasks can they not do that.

If the player-heroes are in the middle of goblin tunnels, or Moria, or hostile country, or are on a quest when they find treasure, they can't suddenly declare a holiday and go off on a fellowship phase.
