Oaths of the Riddermark, I'd imagine.

I love that title, because it gets at the heart of the conflicts in the region, which come down to conflicting oaths, promises, fealties, alliances, etc.

You have an excellent idea and I'm doing the same thing! Great minds and all that :)

I'll be curious to see how your chronicle progresses. Gareth and the rest of them did a superb job on DoM and I want to use it, only I prefer west of the Mountains and hope to integrate it into RotN.

You asked for other perspectives, and one problem I'm encountering is transferring Mogdred west of the Mountains. I like him (though I'm renaming him) and the plots that revolve around him, but I'm not comfortable with any of the forests for his lair. Rhudaur may be an exception, but it places him awfully close to Rivendell, which, IMHO, doesn't really fit the way Rhosgobel does. I'd prefer the Old Forest or the Chetwood, but they also just don't seem to fit. How are you handling him?

But the intent is there...
Wow, this is why you need to keep writing for this game Gareth. You, Francesco, Jon, and the rest of the team have a winner on your hands. The Darkening of Mirkwood, for example, is one of the most evocative and well-written books I've read in nearly 40 years of gaming experience, and I don't say that lightly.

BTW, I recall a comment you posted back in 2013:

"I'll still be lending a hand on the line when I can. Two hands, as often as I can spare them.

There's that Moria campaign idea that I really want to write, for example."

Just saying... ;)

A Moria campaign is kinda hard.

That's what makes it a fun challenge to write.

The other thing that makes it hard is canon. How do you have meaningful adventures there without changing the official story? "Oh, hey Balin, we cleared the upper 6 levels for you."

I have bunches of ideas, but I'm keeping them secret for now.

Let people change history all they want. And then have Durin's Bane clean up their mess and get Balin killed on time. No worries. "Hey, Balin, we cleared 10 levels of Moria for you!" "Cool, thanks guys!" "...wait, what's that big firey thing?" "...Ohsh..."

The Moria expedition had reestablished the settlement for a number of years before they disturbed the Balrog and the Watcher. The expedition entered Moria in 2989 and was there until the end of 2994. Only then did the messages cease coming back to Erebor. It's quite plausible to have the characters join the expedition and spend two or three years clearing the upper levels. They leave once things quieten down and then hear rumours of the settlement lost. If they investigate they find that the upper levels are, once more, full of Orcs and they are unable to make much progress.

My sentiments exactly Glorelendil and reminds me of The Darkening of Mirkwood! The campaign book title pierces to the heart of the matter for the area under its purview.

Wilderland in some way seems the ' heart' of what's Wild in North-western Middle-earth and its 'darkening' the key theme. Rohan is defined by the 'oaths' that dominate the culture, and all the dangers such oaths bring upon the land. Oaths can be a virtue; and a curse when the 'heart' of the land comes under the regard of the Eye, and over its horizon looms the Shadow. ~ shudder ~
