Advantage and Disadvantage (Terminology)
Re: Advantage and Disadvantage (Terminology)
how about boon and bane dice-
gain a boon feat die
suffer a bane feat die
for example in Fair Shot: when you make a ranged attack you gain a boon feat die.
easily differentiated from
a bonus or malus, refering to a simple + or -

I think that this sound quite appropriate.kimbo wrote:how about boon and bane dice-

Re: Advantage and Disadvantage (Terminology)
That's a good mechanical alternative. Especially given 'advantage' has some precedent already in the rules that applies to something other than you describe. Or so it seems to me...Woodclaw wrote: Or simply use something like "Keep Best/Keep Worst".

Favour and Hindrance are my suggestions.

Re: Advantage and Disadvantage (Terminology)
Some great suggestions, here. The problem with "favor" is that we already use that term for skills. And "bane" is a bit too strong, methinks. But I like where this is going.
Being able to "roll with favor" or having to "roll with hindrance" sounds really good.

Doh! Yes sorry about that.
I also like 'this roll is favoured/hindered'. Need a better verb (than favour) for the positive one. Will keep looking...

Maybe we can replace "Favour" with "Bless".bluejay wrote:Doh! Yes sorry about that.

Re: Advantage and Disadvantage (Terminology)
I thought of that, too, but not only is "Blessing" already used, but it is also a die-roll modification (add Wisdom to the roll).Woodclaw wrote:Maybe we can replace "Favour" with "Bless".bluejay wrote:Doh! Yes sorry about that.

Re: Advantage and Disadvantage (Terminology)
For me, "Help" connotes another person actively contributing. "Hinder" does too, but it more easily refers to something inanimate/passive.Eluadin wrote:What about "help/hinder" ... ?
This is a fun exercise, but tricky.
