Bits and Mortar

Post by stumbler » Sat Jan 17, 2015 10:56 am

Question for those who ordered a book through a Bits and Mortar store: How does the digital copy work? Do you get a RpgNow download code, or does the retailer just email you a PDF, or something else?

I've been talking to the owners of a brand new store about Bits and Mortar ... but I'm not sure how that fits with my RPGNow collection of OneRing books.

When I've bought stuff through Leisure Games in the UK they've emailed me a link. C7 does it in exactly the same way but it's all Nick's hard work that keep's pushing those out to buyers (i.e. it's done manually so don't expect anything from C7 except during UK working hours). They'll also send you a pdf if you send them a copy of a receipt that shows you have paid close to retail price for the book (no heavy discounting IIRC).

Participating stores get access to PDFs on the B&M server. They can then email you a link to the pdf of your purchase. This process doesn't involve rpgnow.

When you order direct from Cubicle 7 we send you an rpgnow coupon code.

It may be worth to mention that, at least as far as I know, pdfs on the b&m server don't get any updates and that gimmicks like seperate map-pdfs are only available on rpgnow but not on b&m.

Still on our list to look into. Delivery of updates could be problematic. Or it could just be a case of updating a file on the B&M server with one bearing the same name and delivering an instruction to reuse the original link provided. Gets more complex with more complex products. Or we just start zipping everything.

We'll get there one way or another.

I am a retailer and I have the aforementioned agreement with Bits & Mortar. I can reliably report that I can send an e-mail link for the download. BUT, I can also download the file for the customer and put it on a media type for them. I have actually done the latter more often as some of my customers (i.e., my players...I run the game at my shop) bought the book(s) and wanted the PDF on their tablets for immediate use. As I don't allow universal access to my store's WiFi, I downloaded the file for them and copied it to a flash drive.

Too, I just checked the B&M database. Regarding the Corebook(s), the separate maps are available in the first edition (i.e., the individual Adventurer's Book and Loremaster's Book) version (Dated 2013 Jun 04). This is a zipped bundle and contains 3 files...AB, LB, and the 2 maps. However, the Revised Corebook PDF has the maps on pages 18 and 157 (Dated 2014 Jun 23).

Hope this helps.

Thanks for the info - though this creates a quandary.

My digital One Ring library is on RPGNow (as well as a number of other RPG products.) While would be more than happy to order and pre-order though a my brand new local games retailer (as opposed to C7 directly) - but I've grown rather fond of the RPGNow download codes, and don't want to give those up.

I don't supposed there will be a work-around before the next One Ring preorder gets announced, will there?
