Translation of Runes on the Hobbit Tales board

So I just got Hobbit Tales, and I decided to translate the runes on the board to see what they said. I used the Angerthas/Cirth table in appendix E of my copy of LOTR. However, upon translating the first word in the top bar, I got: b gw d nd khw (I've seperated by rune symbol), which is clearly not a Modern English word, or even an alternate spelling of an English word. So do the runes on the Hobbit Tales board game even spell anything out? If so, is it in Modern English, and what runic alphabet is used?

if you use the Hobbit book, there is a page just before the first chapter which discusses runes.

This message uses those runes.

SPOILER - if you want to translate the message yourself then do not read further on in this message: I used 'Font colour' to make a section of this with white text. It is between the two lines below. (I am guessing that you can change the font colour back if you want to read it.

The words around the edge of the board are Bilbo's song that he sings near the end of the final chapter of the Hobbit as he comes back to Bag End. It is the last verse in The Hobbit.
