Rolling an "eye" in combat

Post by Lorimez » Sat Jan 17, 2015 5:32 pm

Hi all. :D

I understand how the eye functions with corruption tests and travelling tests but how do other Loremasters interpret when players roll it for trying to hit a target?

Do you treat it as an automatic miss?

Do you treat it as a 0?

Do you treat it like it triggers a fumble or unfortunate event?

Do you treat it in some other way?

Many thanks!

It triggers a Called Shot from the Adversary, per the official rules. And it counts as a 0, as it always does. For Called Shots, it counts as a Fumble. It seems to work fairly well for me.

I do try to always describe something special for an Eye, no matter where it shows up... most of the time it's just for colour, not anything mechanical.

In combat during a regular attack roll from a PC it counts as a zero. If the attack misses the adversary then on the adversary's next attack they will attempt a Called Shot. The eye alone does not trigger this.

If the PC is attempting a Called Shot then again it's the same situation. It counts as a zero and only triggers a fumble if the attack misses the target.

Just wanted to clarify here. During attacks the eye is only bad if the attack roll also fails otherwise it's just a zero.

Are you sure about this? I think it triggers the Called Shot everytime, wether the hero's attack fails or hits.

That's the text on page 232 of the Revised Rulebook and how I've been playing it but if it's been overruled in errata then I'd like to know.

A creature automatically attempts a called shot using the
weapon it is currently wielding as its next action whenever
the companion attacking it fails his attack roll and obtains
an Eye
result on his Feat die.
You're right, bluejay!

Thank you! I had to double check this rule several times when running the game. I think one reason I enjoy discussing rules so much on these forums is that it helps solidify them for myself.
