So here was the final ruling about this situation.

Aerindir the archer received 3 Shadow points automatically for the Misdeed shot that brought down Baldor.

The rest of the characters having witnessed a "distressing event", I ruled that they should all roll vs Corruption to avoid gaining 1 Shadow. Nearly all failed their rolls.

Having this much shadow fallen on the fellowship over this one event was an eye opener, and I feel players will think things through better in the future.

The adventure continued because we gained another player, and with his consent, I had his character a prisoner of the spiders at the Castle.

The captured character heard the rantings of Baldor before he was shot, and began yelling for help. The fellowship rescued him, playing out the Castle part of "Don't leave the Path"

All is well and good for now...
