No, that's bouts of madness. When you roll an Eye while Miserable. You do gain a point of permanent shadow when this happens, but it's not the only means of obtaining permanent shadow.Angelalex242 wrote:Huh. I thought all permanent points of Shadow, regardless of how gotten, gave you the Flaw associated with your weakness.

Re: Lesser Ring
Good point and yeah I also bought the pre-order. Perhaps it would be good for C7 to explicitly explain what gets amended when they do updates? It is often hard to spot some of the subtle changes. Anyway with the RAW as it stands this hasn't required house ruling since at least early November. I guess for me this is relevant because the first time I started using High Elf characters was for my Dragonmeet game in December.zedturtle wrote:The Rivendell book underwent some pretty extensive changes between being open for preorder and final production. When we got the initial PDF in July, it was necessary to house-rule that.

We do tend to comment on what we've changed - but this would have been last summer, in the case of Rivendell.
As far as I can remember, we didn't change much though: amended the maps, clarified the lesser ring, modified one of the axes on the magical treasure indexes and added the language table for the two new cultures, and no more than a handful of typos.

Changing the name of one of the Ranger's virtues is the only thing that I can think of that isn't on your list.

Re: Lesser Ring
I would award a point of shadow only if it was made (Lesser Ring) with help from Sauron (or Annatar, Lord of Gift). Otherwise they would be only 'Elf trinket from Eregion' (still too potent toy for mortal
)

Nothing of Worth.

Not to harp, but I do wish that you had managed to correct the entry on pages 19 & 20 about when Gandalf discovered the true identity of the Necromancer. It is irritating to see such blatant misinformation in print. Ah well.Andrew wrote:We do tend to comment on what we've changed - but this would have been last summer, in the case of Rivendell.

You've made that point several times now - we'll correct the PDF but it's too late to do much about in print, I'm afraid! Such mistakes happen, even to wizards and editors.

Yeah, I know. It's just a pet peeve about an otherwise excellent product. Done venting now thanks.Andrew wrote:You've made that point several times now - we'll correct the PDF but it's too late to do much about in print, I'm afraid! Such mistakes happen, even to wizards and editors.

Re: Lesser Ring
Anyways, even without the Flaw, I'm not sure +1 stat is worth the price. Particularly on a Reward you paid good XP for. Particularly on the culture that has the most trouble with Shadow in the first place.
Feels more like a piece of cursed magical treasure you'd get by rolling an Eye then something you should pay XP for the privilege of.
Call of Mirkwood is like that too. Telling the Valar to kriff off just to burn hope on something a trait can do most of the time anyway, or ignore weary for 6 common skills.

Re: Lesser Ring
Is it worth it? The trade is a good one, after all you could get +1 heart which increase your hope (among many other things) which basically negates the permanent shadow. However, I don't think it's one of the strongest options of rewards. I really like the idea of having (or my players having) a lesser ring; I just wish the reward was a little better. If it ever comes up in one of our campaigns, I might consider making it a +1 in two different attributes for the price of two shadow.
