Printing problems

Post by Robin Smallburrow » Mon Feb 02, 2015 6:29 am

As a fan who has produced a no.of fan-made stuff, I decided I wanted to get hard copies of these as I'm old- fashioned and prefer hard copies. But I discovered that the printing industry doesn't seem to cater for someone like me, who wants only one good quality copy.

My local newsagents & Officeworks both charged me about 88c a page (too much!). At this price it's actually cheaper to print at home using my own printer and just buying two sets of cartridges. So I bought some double-sided gloss paper but the quality was no good.

Other printing places don't want to help unless u are doing at least 50 copies

So I thought I'd ask what others have done here in regards to printing. Otherwise I'll just have to print at home on single-sided gloss and then staple the pages together ( not ideal but the best solution I've come up with)

Not sure what options there are down under, but in the USA I've been really happy with http://www.lulu.com - I've used their print-on-demand a few times and have been happy each time.

I haven't used them, but my tutor suggested these people for my dissertation since I'm only printing a few copies. They look fairly good value for money.

Following on from Beleg's suggestion. Try your local university. If they run their own printing service, they may be willing to print off a book and bind it for you.

Lulu doesn't seem bad at all if you just do black and white. 100 pages for $13, which is a full 8.5/11 hard cover. Otherwise $30 for color, but still... not bad.
