Thank you all very much for the answers. Helps to clarify some of the rules or at least set a precedent for my players. I have a party of 6, with 5 novice players and one experienced who has played with me for over 20 years.
Trying not to be a rules lawyer but with a new system it is always good to get how other experienced LM play.
I did search, just not in archived forums, so my fault I guess.....though I find that in my other forum life (own a company that sells UAV's and does a lot of RC type work) that I love helping new people out even though they would be able to stumble about and eventually find an answer. Maybe it is their appreciation that makes it worth it.
The interpretations given here work very well and appeal to the dramatic part of the game. That is exactly what I was looking for.
The system lends itself so well to "winging it" that sometimes I need more fences to keep things consistent.
If there are called shots, then I want to make sure that I apply the results properly, and having the "dropped weapon" rules as part of a "thick skin" description makes it seem like more of an afterthought.
Now another question has come up.
Character suffers 10 endurance loss in an earlier battle. After he recovers his body score say of 5, he is left with a loss of 5 endurance.
He is involved in another combat later. He doesn't suffer any damage. Does he recover his body score again after that combat?
Finding the healing rules to be a little tough. States that hero's don't recover while "on the road". So just in general adventure, is there no healing at night when sleeping around the campfire? States on page 159 that to recover fatigue you need to rest in a safe place, ie not on the road.
Does this just apply when journeying, not once you stop to conduct adventure time?
Rules clarifications
Re: Rules clarifications
Characters recover after they get a chance to catch their breath (at least 1/2 hour). I'd personally only allow them to recover lost Endurance from that fight (not a previous one).Shadrack wrote:Now another question has come up.

There is general healing every night, it's just important to realize there's a difference between recovering Endurance (typically lost in a fight, which for an Unwounded companion is 2+Heart in a safe place and 2 per rest 'on the road') and Fatigue (1 per night's sleep in a safe place). There's a great new chart on p. 132 of the Revised rules that makes it all clear.
The differentiation isn't between 'journeying' and 'adventure time', but rather 'journeying' (i.e., "on the road" or while travelling, which will often include out in the wild during an adventure) and 'in a safe place' (so places like Rhosgobel, Rivendell, Beorn's Hall, etc.).
Tale of Years for a second, lower-level group (in the same campaign).
Re: Rules clarifications
I agree entirely. It's supposed to represent the fact that some of Endurance loss is simply a measure of the effort to avoid more grievous harm. Otherwise folks will end up calling for a 'short rest' after every Task/Test.Majestic wrote:Characters recover after they get a chance to catch their breath (at least 1/2 hour). And Shadrack, I'm really happy to see that we haven't scared you away with any of the forum-drama that's cropped up here. I apologise for my part in any unpleasantness.

Re: Rules clarifications
Thanks. Would be a pity to see a taint over all based on a few. That is already the problem with society is that we have too many rules that cater to the few, not the many.
Great resource for answers here and for the most part, people are pleasant. I feel more sorry for people that feel the need to insult others in order to somehow feel a sense of superiority. I manage people and realize that attitude would cause revolt.
Really enjoy the game. Funny to see the DnD taint that makes everyone try to find ways to get into a fight vs ways to not.
Enjoying teaching them how painful that can be.
