Question about 'Revised' Edition
Question about 'Revised' Edition
Hi all
I'm taking another look at TOR Revised edition but was a bit confused by the errata/clarifications document
I was surprised by the amount of errata/clarifications there appears to be with the revised edition, and I was curious as to whether or not there's been or there will be a reprint (soon) with the errata/clarifications updated in it?
Thanks all

Re: Question about 'Revised' Edition
Hi Warden!
The Revised hardback edition released on the summer of 2014 is the latest edition. There is no errata/clarification document for this one.
The document you speak of handles the differences between the old edition and the new, so that owners of the old new don't have to buy the new edition if they don't want to - every change and clarification is there in that document. You only need it if you want to continue using your old slipcase books.
So you can safely buy the hardback edition and get the game up to date. Hope that helps.

Just for a slightly unnecessary "official" response - the errata and clarifications PDF is for the previous, slipcase edition not the new revised edition.Warden wrote:Hi all

Thanks for clarifying Jon

Warden, I'm a bit late to the discussion, but yes, the hardcover revised core rules is well worth the money. It's a lovely volume...you know that peculiar Tolkieny feeling when you don't want to read the Lord of the Rings...just thrumb through the book and look at maps and chapter art and dwarven runes and enjoy that feeling of nostalgia back to the first time you ever heard about the Lord of the Rings? This book will rekindle that.
Cheers.
Cheers.

Re: Question about 'Revised' Edition
The only question about errata concerning the revised hardback edition that I've heard and still haven't heard an official answer to is the question about Spider Weapons.
The original Loremaster's Guide in the slipcase edition includes a line under the Spider Weapons Table on p. 75 that states:
*If the Ensnare roll is successful and produces a great or extraordinary success, the spider immediately attacks its victim using its sting.
The revised hardback edition (p. 241) leaves this line out, therefore causing a question about whether or not this was a design change to reduce the power of Ensnare, or if the line was accidentally omitted. I am very sure it was the latter (based on the example of combat given on p. 183 that mentions an Extraordinary success by an Attercop using Ensnare). This would qualify it as the only real piece of errata for the hardback (unless others can think of more). But, I hardly think one piece of errata calls for an entire document. It does, however, call for bragging rights! What an incredible achievement for a roleplaying game.
