Today I finished reading through Tales from Wilderland (I still have to run my group through the last two). All the way through, I kept expecting to get to some scene that would be reminiscent of the cover. But I'm not exactly sure what the (brilliant, as all the art has been for TOR) scene the evocative cover is from.
Anybody have any ideas?
Of course, it could just be a stylized painting meant to convey the general tone, or one of thrilling adventure.

Re: Cover to Tales from Wilderland
The sketch for the cover was provided by John Howe, who didn't have time in his schedule (Dominated as it was at that time by design work for The Hobbit movies) so I painted it.
I believe it is meant to be more atmospheric and indicative of tone than a direct happening from the scenarios.

Re: Cover to Tales from Wilderland
I always thought it would fit better to the mood of Eriador than to Wilderland - because of the ghosts.
Anyway, it's a great cover, I especially like that the guys at the campside do not seem to realise the peril their friend (probably the poor lookout guy) is in...

I vaguely recall the Night-Wight encounter in Of Leaves and Stewed Hobbits as being connected to the cover, but I can't remember if I added it in response, or just thought that the two were close enough thematically to work.

I always wondered about that myself, and always thought it as being atmospheric and non-spoilerly.Jon Hodgson wrote:The sketch for the cover was provided by John Howe, who didn't have time in his schedule (Dominated as it was at that time by design work for The Hobbit movies) so I painted it.

Thanks for the responses, Jon and Gareth!
In any event, it's an awesome (and beautiful) cover!
