Well, you made a point since I'm realizing that the outcomes are not clear in my first post! I'll edit it , specifying the successes required ;)

I was confused by that too and was about to suggest using normal encounter rules. I, too, forgot that Encounters use the terms "great success" and "extraordinary success".

Mich, what kind of odds do you expect for the outcome(s)?

Here it is, now the outcomes should be clear! Check it out in the first post.

I also added a Narrow success option, which will be not very pleasant for the players ;)

I designed it to be a tough Encounter, maybe the toughest that the characters will ever face. It must be played as a very tense game, with the Giant growing more and more menacing as the characters struggle to find the solution to the enigma.
I think that most Fellowships will get out of this with a Narrow success or a Normal success, which is exactly what I had in mind. But you can always lower the difficulty of the checks to make things easier for your players, of course.

A great Encounter, Michebugio. And quite the fearsome adversary! 8-)

I wonder if instead of Sanctuary (after all, hanging out in a giant's cave for a whole FP seems...uncomfortable) it could be some kind of Undertaking. "Riddles with the Giant" Could mechanically be the same as "Consult a Loremaster" but with different flavor.

Granted, that's true. So it's either a challenge to come up with something that makes it a bit more interesting. Maybe an Undertaking is a better way, though...
