First, I am assuming that Dis, sister of Thorin Oakenshield and mother to Fili and Kili, out-lived her sons and learned of their deaths (as well as the death of Thorin) sometime after the Battle of Five Armies.
Presumably, the majority of Durin's Folk who settled in the Blue Mountains following the War of the Dwarves and Orcs returned to Erebor after Dain II became King under the Mountain. Dis would have almost certainly made the journey, if only to see her brother's and sons' tombs and to mourn them. But, might it have been too painful for her to remain in Erebor? She was only a small child when Smaug drove the Dwarves out of Erebor. Most of her happiest memories might be associated with Thorin's Halls in the Ered Luin. I can easily imagine her returning to those halls to live out the rest of her days. I am adopting this premise for the Eriador adventure that I am working on, with Dis as a potential NPC.
Thoughts?

Might Dis have remained in the Blue Mountains?

I find more plausible that she would choose to stay in Erebor, instead. She was born there, and I feel that the choice of remaining next to her brother's and sons' tombs would be much more natural for her, also to cope with the mourning (she could visit their tombs whenever she wants).
They died to conquer Erebor back, so the least that she can do to honour their memory is to live the rest of her days in the Mountain they fought so hard for. Plus, she's of royal bloodline, and thus she belongs more to Erebor than to the Blue Mountains.
At least that's my impression. It would be a nice "journey-based" adventure, though on the opposite direction than the one you're suggesting (i.e. from the Ered Luins to Erebor).

Great adventure hook, though. I can see the heroes assisting/rescuing/seeking Dis.

It seems to me most likely that having returned to the Lonely Mountain Dis would remain there. However there was mention in the Hobbit and LotR of Dwarves travelling back and forth, so it is not at all impossible that Dis would have made a return visit (or several) to the Blue Mountains.
I do think she makes a great NPC hook for an adventure. Especially as she provides a tie in to the Battle of Five Armies and highlights the tragic aspects of that affair, when many focus on the triumph of the death of Smaug.

Well, my thought is that Dis returns to Thorin's Halls in the Blue Mountains and that Thorin's old companions (Bofur and Bifur in this case; Bombur refusing to travel any more) stay there when they are in the region.Glorelendil wrote:Great adventure hook, though.
