Crossings of Celduin Roll20 map *SPOILERS!*

Post by Devil » Sun Feb 22, 2015 11:33 pm

Hey everyone. So, in the tradition of my previous posting of my little homebrew subsystem to handle the Folkmoot at Rhosgobel, I'd thought I'd share this latest Roll20 battlemat. This represents the Battle at Celduin Crossing. I created "defense zones" for the PC's to put themselves in, and put bonus dice areas to represent their planning of the defenses. Each zone had advantages and disadvantages. For example, firing from the top of the tower gave an extra opening volley, while being in the mid-tower allowed greater protection from missile attacks; the bridge could be held by three men, but taking a knockback meant being knocked into the river, etc. This was to organize the play area as well as to encourage them to get creative with their ideas for the defense.

This screenshot is from when the vanguard attacks the tollhouse. The troll didn't get anywhere near it, as three of the PC's decided to heroically (stupidly?) defend from the bridge, even though they were all weary and near exhaustion. Quite a great moment, actually.

(The bonus dice were all used up by the time I took this screenshot. They had fixed the gate, piled the orc corpses at the far end of the bridge to deter invaders, strewn fishoil-soaked straw across the bridge to alight when enemies crossed, and put range markers along the bridge to aid the town's archers.)

Well done Devil! Looks like a very helpful organizer with some great ideas. I'm sure it was a great game with that epic stand-off with the troll!

cheers

Awesome. Few things give a designer more of a thrill than seeing people take ideas and run with them.
