Well the solution to this problem is trivial. "All right everyone, we are ending the session here. Me and Dave are doing a pizza run, everyone needs to chip in. When we get back a new session will begin, starting with a Fellowship Phase."

And this example shows why it's silly to not award the XP.

But all depends, my company passed through Rivendell, so got only 1 XP point. But for now I'll start to reward XP points during the adventure phase.
