The simplest RPGs I have are http://www.rpgnow.com/product/106605/He ... antasy-RPG Hero Kids and http://www.rpgnow.com/product/29572/Fae ... faery&it=1 Faery's Tale. But even they seem too complex for an introductory game. In fact, I don't think so many mechanics are even needed to play an RPG.
From what I've seen, Hero Kids adventures are mostly dungeon crawling combat. I'm not really fond of them: killing wave after wave of rats is not what I think an RPG is about.
Faery's Tale adventures are far more elaborate, and I even think it's a game that could very well be liked by adults who love tales as a whole.

That was me! Glad it worked out for you. And I hope others try it out. It's a cute game, and actually very well designed. I'm surprised you dropped the odds/evens dice rolling mechanic, this is one of my favourite parts, and works so well with kids. The TOR-adapted rules look great though--I was thinking about doing something similar with my boy one day.

Nice looking character sheet too--pictures, props are all important, I agree. My youngest likes to dress up and act some parts out as we play.

Hey Glorelendil--I've done quite a bit of searching, and Faery's Tale was one of the best I came up with, both for level of scarryness (my boy's pretty sensitive) and mechanics that are suited (i.e. simple, but interesting enough for even a kid who likes boardgames/rulesets/complications (especially if you add in the additional optional rules)). Plus, who couldn't love a game thats based off of movies like Legend, Labyrinth, and Willow!

If you find anything else that looks good, will you please post it here?

Absolutely. Just bought the Faery PDF; going to read that before I go searching for more.

Fate Accelerated Edition is pretty much designed for kids. Maybe not ones quite as young as Falenthal's version is appropriate for, but it's listed for ages 8+, and award-winning and cheap to boot.

Hey, guys! Would you mind if the discussion about RPGs for Kids is moved to this other thread?
viewtopic.php?f=56&t=3686&p=33760#p33760

Just so that people looking for info about it find it easier with an appropiate thread title.

This one.

Also, I went a panel on kids and RPGs at GenCon and the guy who made this was there. Seemed to know what he was talking about, though it's definitely focused on girls (or boys who like mermaids).

I usually just lurk on these boards picking up hints and tips for TOR but the Faery's Tale post reminded me.

My daughter and I wrote a mini-campaign for Faery's Tale (and a friend illustrated and laid it out) which got the author's approval, you can download it for free here: http://www.firefly-games.com/index.php? ... nt&pid=21. if you're interested.

I had found this adventure in the internet and found it amazing. It's an honour to get to know (half) the author(s).
Great, great work there, klaXXXXX :D

As you may have guessed from the author names mine is Kevin. I wrote the original campaign for my daughter who was aged about 9 at the time. She played the whole thing through in a couple of sessions and we then rewrote some of it based on what she did and her comments. Getting a friend, Jordan, to illustrate it for free was an added bonus.

I have thoroughly enjoyed running Faery's Tale for my daughter, her approach is refreshing after years of somewhat predictable adult players ;)
