Looking for player - PbP - Ruins of the North
I'm in a PbP game that started in January. We are all playing starting-level PCs, so we will actually do a number of "prelude" adventures before we start the actual Ruins of the North adventures (as they are said to be geared toward experienced PCs). We have a great backstory so far with enough material to have some interesting adventures. It's being run over at Brennor's RPG corner.
http://brennor.dyndns.org/rpg/Forums/vi ... f=699.html
We have 6 players, but one just dropped. The player who just dropped wasn't absolutely essential to the backstory but if someone would like to use that PC's background but re-spec their own character (any Human culture, with the option to re-spec again to a Man of Bree when the Adventurer's Companion is out), that would be great. The other alternative would be to create a new PC from Eriador (Man, Hobbit, or Dwarf, again could re-spec once the Adventurer's companion comes out). But, in that situation we would need to work out how your PC fits in. Anyone joining now would not have a lot of catch up to do in order to get up to speed. We are only just at the beginning of a "prelude" adventure.
Expectations:
- The Loremaster does the rolls and posts all results. This keeps the game moving.
- Players should want to post every 1-2 days (of course give notice when not able). The game moves fast and will skip a player (PC considered just "in the background") if they cannot post. Please do not express interest if you don't think you can do this. Most players post at least once a day, and more during combat.
- We are playing mostly RAW, but a lot of the interactions are not full Encounters. We simply role-play things out. So far we have not used Traits and APs as written either, but are awarded a fixed # of APs when XP is awarded. Players can use Traits for auto-successes, but just not as often. It's different, but it has worked out fine. We are playing with all other rules released (magical treasure, holdings, eye awareness, etc.).
Please post here if interested.

Hi.
This is Scott/Tarondor.
Given your house rules, do you think a new player would be able to learn and understand the rules of TOR from experience gained playing? If so, I'm interested.
I'm an experienced RPGer and gamer (having played and GMed dozens of different systems for the last 37 years). I run two online games of Pathfinder, one online game of Traveller and a tabletop game of Pathfinder. I'm very used to posting regularly in PBP. I can commit to at least once daily (though usually not on weekends).
My knowledge of Middle-Earth is high (as it is for most people here, I'd guess), but I've never played TOR. I do own Ruins of the North, but I'm good at separating player knowledge from character knowledge.
Thanks,
Scott

I would be interested. I run my own weekly campaign on Fantasy Grounds, but have only actually played one game a s a PC. PbP sounds like a great option for me as I do not have a lot of time for extra gaming sessions. I have never played a PbP game, but I don't think it would be hard to adjust. I could play any character, but have always wanted to play a hobbit, if that was an option.

Thanks Scott, Bill. Sounds great.
Oh, we don't usually post on the weekends, I should have mentioned that. So, daily posting M-F.
We may have room for both. It really depends on our Loremaster, I'll let him make the final call. I will forward this thread to him.
If you like, sign up on Brennor's and PM me there. (Same user name, you will see me posting to that Ruins game I've linked to). I'll introduce you to the guy running our game.
Besides Ruins of the North, there are a many other games going on. Once you are there, feel free to look around at the games currently playing and contact a GM to see if there is an opening or if they'd have room.

I think you could learn the game well from playing; while not using Traits exactly RAW, after you play for a while it would not be difficult to surmise how it would work.Tarondor wrote: Given your house rules, do you think a new player would be able to learn and understand the rules of TOR from experience gained playing? Thank you. I'm going to need a little more hand-holding. What's Brennor's and how do I get there?Blubbo Baggins wrote:If you like, sign up on Brennor's and PM me there. (Same user name, you will see me posting to that Ruins game I've linked to). I'll introduce you to the guy running our game

Scott,
If you go up to my original post you will see not only a link to Brennors, but the link directly to the game.

Hey guys! I'm the LM over on Brennor's running the game.
I think there would be run for both of you in the Ruins games (and in plenty of other games if you find stuff you like, we have a gammut of options from Pathfinder to L5R to Game of Thrones and more).
Come log in to Brennor's and we can get chatting. I'm Vardaen there too.
