Combat can not raise your Fatigue, or am I wrong? Only travel and equipment can do so. Combat would reduce your Endurance, your Fatigue however would stay unchanged during combat.1) A dwarf with 32 Endurance and 27 Fatigue (in part due to equipment, partly due to combat).
A simple question on Endurance and being Weary

Something is confusing me here:

Adding is easier than subtracting and it works out the same in play.

Not really, Endurance is much easier to recover than Fatigue. There's a reason they are kept separate.

I use a separate box for Travel Fatigue and add the two together. The 'official' sheet has a certain lack in this regard.

But to answer your question: you're right, combat can not raise your Fatigue (in normal circumstances).Hirobumi wrote:Something is confusing me here:

Yeah, that was my bad. I didn't really think there would be a mechanical difference between decreasing your Endurance or increasing your Fatigue.Hirobumi wrote:Something is confusing me here:

Aha. So the number you ought to aim for is about 10, huh? I'm just going through some concepts for a character now, for now considering a dwarf who is the Guide of the company, with heavy armor, shield, etc. Was wondering how much free points I should have been aiming at.Robin Smallburrow wrote:This example is why we advise new players to have at least 10 puts ''extra' of Endurance compared to starting Fatigue, otherwise their character might be made Weary with only one successful hit, and unless said character is heavily armoured (4d or more) they are likely to fail a Protection Test - and being Wounded Really Sucks!

I don't think there's ever been any mathematical evidence for an optimum number. 10 points is just the number that gets mentioned on the forums a lot.

Re: A simple question on Endurance and being Weary
In general, most races want 2d+4 or 3D of armor. Dwarves want 3D+4 or 4D. Beornings and Dunedain end up with 1D+4 or 2D, generally.
The +4 options with the helm are generally better, because a helm's protection cannot be negated or reduced by weary.
But, if you believe in the TV Trope 'Helms are hardly heroic', then the 3D/4D/2D options work well enough.

Ah, but the TV Trope is there because it's important for the audience to be able to see the hero. Since most of this action is taking place in our mind's eyes, it's not that big of a deal if their face is covered!

Tale of Years for a second, lower-level group (in the same campaign).

Funny, even though that's true I hate helms. I don't like imagining my character wearing a helm....Majestic wrote:Ah, but the TV Trope is there because it's important for the audience to be able to see the hero.
