Question about magic weapons and armour
So, I was preparing a magic treasure index the other day, and I had a question. When I first read the rules for famous arms and armour, I was sure there was a rule stating that, since all Magical Qualities are Unique, and since they also count as regular Qualities for purposes of fulfilling requirements, that if it had, say, Superior Keen on it it couldn't also have Keen. But, something like Ancient Close Fitting and Close Fitting would be fine, since Close Fitting is not a Unique Quality. But for some reason, I can't seem to find that line when I re-read the rules, and I'm wondering if I just made it up or something. So basically, my question is, would you allow a magic item to have both a unique quality and it's magical upgrade? And what about for non-unique Qualities? And is this covered by the rules, and I just missed it?

I don't believe there's a rule against it, nor should there be. Even stacking Keen isn't as OP as it might sound, because the lower the Feat die roll the greater the likelihood that your attack missed.

p. 97 of Rivendell says "Qualities sharing a common descriptor cannot be attributed to the same item (a Grievous sword cannot be given the Superior Grievous Enchanted Quality, for example)."
Tale of Years for a second, lower-level group (in the same campaign).

I stand corrected. I thought I had remembered something similar as well, but went and looked for it and couldn't find it.Majestic wrote:p. 97 of Rivendell says "Qualities sharing a common descriptor cannot be attributed to the same item (a Grievous sword cannot be given the Superior Grievous Enchanted Quality, for example)."
I still don't think it's necessary, however. Stacking an enchanted quality with a regular quality isn't as powerful as two different enchanted qualities.

Thanks. Knew it was there somewhere, but I must have just missed it.
And yeah, it probably wouldn't overpower anything too much, but since I already allow magic weapons to be Cultural Rewards (but only if it makes sense for the make, and also has to match the Culture of the player receiving it. So an Elven-make bow could be a Woodland Bow for an Elf of Mirkwood, but not for, say, a Hobbit), I'm already stretching the rules enough that I didn't want to in this case.
