Guys, I am interested in how you interpret that dreamlike state that leaves tracks in the ground?
Would full grown bear body have potentially any disabilities same as PC? Our Beorning is one finger short (her backstory of previous adventures), so would Bear be also disfigured somehow in that paw?
Also, since Bear state is using all attributes and skill ranks related to PC, how that relates to the speed of that animal since it can go as far as three days of travel during the night (sometimes it is just a few hours until sunrise in the summer)? Would bear be skipping Athletics checks to measure the speed? Surly, even 5 ranks in all related to speed of travel common skills can’t match that feat to cover some many miles in such short time. So is Night-goer super speedy in that state and only becomes as slow as PC when it matters to the encounters or PC’s decisions when the speed is of the essence (use of skills)?
Night-goer questions
Re: Night-goer questions
On the first point--yes, it might make sense that the spirit form would show the injury.
On the second, I don't think the spirit can travel as far as you think. The rules read:
I'm not sure about the actual speed of the bear. . . . Whoa! Just googled it. Apparently they can run up to 40 mph. Don't know about a daily amount though. Presumably still on the order of 20 miles per day?
That's my take. Hope it helps.
On the second, I don't think the spirit can travel as far as you think. The rules read:
So, the player can explore 'an area' within the three-day radius, but cannot actually travel that far in one night. So, no player could, for example, explore Mordor in bear-form.In this state, you can spend a point of Hope to explore an area within three days of travel, until sunrise wakes you.

That's why you don't run from bears and hope the creature isn't big enough to push down the tree you just climbed.

Re: Night-goer questions
cuthalion I appreciate your thoughts!
It would mean that spirit materializes in the Wilderland borders within 3 days of travel of sleeping PC to investigate the area using PCs attributes and skills. That makes sense. I like that spiritual teleportation in the moment of assuming Bear form and I didn't think of that before. Much obliged.

I agree with that interpretation.MattG wrote:cuthalion I appreciate your thoughts!

I envision it as "you dream about..." that place the player asked about, and the PC starts exploring from there. So I avoid having bear tracks all around the campfire. Or the inn

Re: Night-goer questions
I've always ran it like a dream sequence; the player described his goals and then I narrated what had happened as he woke up. Of course, playing by PbP so this was for practical considerations as much as rules-interpretations.

I just wanted to add that - though I've never had this come up yet - it sounds like a really fun mechanic for the GM/Loremaster!

Tale of Years for a second, lower-level group (in the same campaign).
