Master magic treasure index

Post by Arkat » Tue May 19, 2015 2:17 pm

Hey people. I thought it could be fun to collect all our magic items in one enchanted thread. Here are some of mine to start us off:

Belthronding
Type: Great bow
Craftmanship: Elves of Doriath
Banes: Orcs
Qualities: 1)Superior Grevious, 1)Keen, 3)Sure Shot.
Possible curse: Ill luck

Description: Belthronding is made of black Yew, inlaid with knots of lighter wood, strung with bear sinew and can only be drawn by might and magic (Valor and Wisdom 3+). This bow belonged to Beleg Strongbow and was though lost with the sinking of Beleriand.

Dramborleg
Type: Great axe
Craftmanship: Elves of Gondolin
Banes: The Enemy
Qualities: 1)Raging, 2)Crushing, 3)Superior Fell
Possible curse: Ill omen

Description: A beautiful double-headed axe engraved with wave-motifs.

Anyone else game?

I don't have any to contribute, but I'd definitely be a consumer for creative, canonical, and well-researched names/histories/descriptions of items. It's easy to pick three enchanted qualities, but bringing the items to life is an art.

Most of these are inspired from MERP Treasures of Middle Earth supplement. Many deviate from the Rivendell rules.

- PRECIOUS OBJECTS -

Annayulma (Q. “Gift Cup”, worth 90 treasure points, sentimental value to Elves.)
A silver chalice encrusted with emeralds that can pour Miruvor (a delightful and invigorating cordial). The wielder may spent a point of hope to fill up to eight glasses. One point of fatigue is restored to those who drink. If the wielder is an elf he may do this for free (no hope point) one time per adventuring phase.

Durin's Gift (worth 110 treasure points)
Said to be given by Durin II to men of the vales of Anduin as a token of their close relations and alliance. It consists of a belt, a sheath and armbands of figured leather, strengthened with mithril and decorated with white gems. The sheath is made for holding a sword. Any sword placed in the sheath can not be broken when in the sheath or when drawn in the hands of anyone wearing the armbands.

- WONDROUS ARTEFACTS -

Collothalion (S. “Cloak of Shields”)
A dark blue cloak trimmed with a white border & stitched with silver thread into a dazzling pattern. In battle the cloak animates and seems to come to life and the pattern changes and dazzles attackers. If worn without using shield the cloak increases the Parry score of the wearer by 2.

Corantir (S. “Circle of Long Seeing”)
Golden circlet of elven make. Protects the wearer as he had an helmet (without any encumbrance) and allows the wearer to see about twice as far as normal (blessing to Awareness for distant things only).

Gift of Melian
Engwë's beautiful suspended medallion was a gift from the Maia it is named for. It is entirely a swirl of variously coloured laen, so artfully put together that is seems constantly in motion, though completely static. Blessing to Awe and wearer is immune to fear.

Nimrodel's Necklace
This beautifully necklace of black and green jade is a work of the highest Elven craftsmanship. The necklace enables the wearer use his favoured Wits for Parry rating, if she already uses is favoured Wits then the Parry rating is increased by 1.

Maltilcala (Q. Gold-gleam)
A lesser Elven ring made by Celebrimbor before the great rings where made. It is a gold ring with no inscriptions or gems. Though it's gold is quite bright, almost as it shines. The ring increases the wearers Wits by 1, and seems to bring the wearer out of the most dire situations - wearer can reroll any roll once per game session.

Hilvar's Flute
A silver flute which has a tracery of gold around each of the finger-holes. It belonged to a particularly carefree Silvan Elf known for his light-hearted song and biting wit. The flute lightens the mood for those listening. Blessing to Song. Witch extraordinary success listeners that are not miserable may removed one temporary shadow point (once per adventuring/fellowship phase only).

Gimilkhor
A gold ring set with a single sapphire, this item was named by its maker. Spidery Tengwar runes spell out the ring's name on the inside of the band. It gives a Blessing to resist magic of all kinds. If the wearer have to use a point of hope to resist the magic he may roll a feat dice. If the result shows a Gandalf rune he gets the hope point back after resisting the magic.

Sulrosendil (S. “Friend of Sea and Foam)
This ring once belong to Elros before it eventually became a hereditary possession of the Kings of Númenor. This is a sister ring to that worn by Círdan of Lindon. The favoured Wits score of the wearer is increased by 1. The wearer always seem to get a bit more favourable weather conditions than others; he ignores any Sauron eyes when making Traveling tests at sea. He may also spend a point of hope to control winds in the area surrounding him if he is by the sea or sailing on the sea.

Elenya (Q. “Ring of Stars”)
A lesser Eleven Ring of Power made by Finculin with aid from Annatar and Celebrimbor. It is a pale shadow of the might of the Three, but it us still an item of considerable power. The Ring of Stars is fashioned of mithril and set with an amethyst. The ring can be invisible and undetectable to all but other Ringbearers if desired. If the wearer is mortal he ages at about half normal rate, but reduces body or heart score with one every tenth year. If body or heart score reaches 0 the wearer turns into a wraith. The Wits score of the wearer increases by one. The ring makes the wearer more emphatic to those he meets and gives a Blessing to Insight. The wearer may at any time spend a Hope point to become invisible for a limited time and then have a Greater blessing to Stealth.

Sigilnîr, the Necklace of Tears

The Sigilnîr is a beautiful white-gold necklace of subtle design, wrought in Eregion of old, by an Elf-princess who traveled far and wide while her daughter remained at home. A small locket inlaid with interlocking motifs is it's main adornment. Placing a portrait of the wearer's true love inside will activate its strange magic: the portrait will slowly alter to reflect the emotional state of the true love, whether joy or sorrow, pleasure or pain.

The item functions much the same as if the wearer had a second Fellowship Focus, renewing 1 point of Hope at the end of a session if the true love remains happy and content, but also as a source of Shadow should they ever suffer.
