Amon Bauglir

Post by zedturtle » Wed May 20, 2015 12:49 am

So my heroes are near to Tyrant's Hill and the elf-characters are rolling Lore like mad to try and learn the history of the place.

I'm thinking watch-tower for Dol Guldur (based on the name), ruled by one of the Necromancer's servants (again, based on the name). I think it would be of mannish/orcish construction, and possibly overthrown before Dol Guldur (or maybe not, I don't know). But is there lore somewhere that I'm missing? Or has anyone done something different with it?

For some reason I thought it was originally an elven built watchtower and then abandoned the same as Dol Guldur. I wish I had a source for you. But I imagine orcs and men have renovated and modified it for their own purposes.

Darkening of Mirkwood does something different with it. To be aware of if you are going to use that. If not, go with what you want.
European FG2 RPG
Using Ultimate Fantasy Grounds - that means anyone can play.

Darkening is where I'm at, but I'm away from all my books... what different background info is there? I know about the current occupants, I'm trying to get a history for the elves to spout off.

From THOTW:
Tyrant’s Hill (Amon Bauglir)
A fortress stands upon a wooded rise on the edge of the wood, some fifty miles north of Dol Guldur. The Elves named the rise the Tyrant’s Hill many years ago, for it was from the keep that sits upon it that many raiding parties issued forth. The tower was built by Orcs, who hewed the stone out of the hillside and cut living wood from the forest to make it. By night, the howling of the Wargs can be heard for miles around.

Just an excerpt from HotW, the part about its origins:
The Elves named the rise the Tyrant’s Hill many years ago, for it was
from the keep that sits upon it that many raiding parties
issued forth. The tower was built by Orcs, who hewed
the stone out of the hillside and cut living wood from the
forest to make it.
By night, the howling of the Wargs can be
heard for miles around.
So, according to HotW, it wasn't constructed by elves and then overrun by Orcs, like Dol Guldur.
