Mind if I ask one more?

My Dwarven weapon skills are as follows:
(Axes): 2
Great Axe: 1

I am using a great axe, is my skill rating 2, or 1. And is it favored?
As others have said, this is an impossible set of weapon skills to acquire. However, it does lead to a question that I had, and found helpful when I got it answered.

Say your Dwarf has (Axes) 2. I originally thought that a player who decided to specialise into a single weapon would do something like this:
(Axes) 2 -> Great Axe 3.

But it actually works like this:
(Axes) 2 -> Great Axe 3 & (Axes) 2.

That makes a lot more sense... the character didn't suddenly forget how to handle other axes, she is just becoming more adept with the weapon she uses everyday and the other axe skills are not seeing improvement (or loss) because of that.

Of course, game-wise doing that only makes sense you plan to use Expertise in order to make it a favoured weapon skill.

Thanks guys, I was experimenting with the online character creator and followed this procedure which led to my question:

1. I chose the weapon skill package:
(Axes) 2
Short sword 1
Dagger 1

2. I chose 2 Wisdom. 1 Valor (1 Virtue)

3. I chose Expertise as my virtue (You have practised a skill until it has become as natural as breathing.
You can choose a new favoured skill (either a Common skill or a Weapon skill)

4. I added 1 point to the Great Axe skill with my initial 10 previous experience points.

Is that not accurate? What am I doing wrong?

I your Great Axe skill would be at 2 already since you have a proficiency of 2 with all axes.

You're doing nothing wrong, it's probably a bug in the character creator.
You begin with 2 ranks in every kind of axe (Axe, Long-hafted axe, Great Axe). So, improving just the Great Axe means you'll have to pay the cost of getting from rank 2 to rank 3.
Also, if you pick up Expertise, you can have (Axes) and also Great Axe.

Yes, that would seem to be a bug in the generator. Falenthal is correct: you should end up with:
(Axes): 2
Great Axe: 3

However, I wouldn't recommend spending your virtue on Expertise. The only thing it gives you is an extra little bonus to hit when you spend a point of Hope, which will tend to be maybe once or twice per session. It will rarely if ever make a difference, and will become even less likely as you advance in skill. Other Virtues are much more useful.

It's true that the chart on p. 132 does say "Journey Fatigue Recovery", but the spelled-out rules (on "Recovering Fatigue", p. 159) don't spell out a difference between Journey Fatigue and Fatigue from gear. Maybe I've been doing it wrong, but I just allow characters to recover all Fatigue at a rate of 1 per night's sleep in a safe place.
It doesn't look like anybody responded to this one. What's your thought on this, people? Do you differentiate between two types of Fatigue? Or do you just recover all Fatigue at once (at a rate of 1 per night's sleep in a safe place)?
Tale of Years for a second, lower-level group (in the same campaign).

You don't have to differentiate between sources of Fatigue since you can't recover Fatigue caused by gear. As long as you're wearing your armor/wielding your weapon the Encumbrance will be there as a "base Fatigue". If you get rid of the armour you recover Fatigue at the normal rate, the same as Fatigue from journeys. At least that is how I do it.

Yeah, what J3W1 is calling 'fatigue from gear' is Encumbrance, I would imagine. Fatigue, aka 'fatigue from travel' is all that can be recovered by resting in a safe place. Encumbrance can be reduced by removing gear, but with the exception of the half-benefit for Helm, doesn't take effect until a prolonged rest.

Or, at least, that's how I do it.
