A source for new adventures?
A source for new adventures?
So, one thing I love about TOR is all the excellent published adventures available (Tales from Wilderland, Ruins of the North, Darkening of Mirkwood and others). I'm about to start a new campaign with new players, and I'm going to be using these mostly.
But recently I've started playing the Lord of the Rings Living Card Game (LCG) from Fantasy Flight Games, and I realized that this is also an excellent source of adventures, which can easily be translated into TOR. For those unfamiliar with it, the Lord of the Rings card game is a cooperative game where players take their heroes through different adventures, starting in Wilderland. And there are loads and loads of these adventures!
So, does anyone else have experience with using the card game for inspiration when making TOR adventures?

Re: A source for new adventures?
The Lord of the Rings LCG by Fantasy Flight Games is my favourite game, bar none. It's more addictive than crack (not that I've tried crack, but you know what I mean). And while I have purchased every The One Ring RPG product available thus far, I have unfortunately never had the opportunity to play or LM this beautiful game… and probably won't for a long time.
That having been said, the same thought crossed my mind. If I were to LM The One Ring, I would definitely find inspiration and borrow material from the quests, artwork and encounters featured in the LCG.
If you end up doing it, I'd love to hear how the experience goes…
Cheers!

Re: A source for new adventures?
I've only recently started playing it, but I'm getting the sets and expansions as fast as my budget allows. I have the Core Set (two of them, to allow four players) and the entire Mirkwood Cycle, which is great for The One Ring.
I also love the artwork on the cards. They're excellent handouts too. Want to know how the Old Ford looks like? Hand the players the Old Ford Location card. (http://www.cardgamedb.com/forums/upload ... d-thfg.jpg)

Re: A source for new adventures?
Cool. I have the base set, but never bought any of the expansions... I have a hard time playing solo, and haven't found a reliable partner.
But maybe random card draws and a version of JRB's Wild Adventures might work well?

Re: A source for new adventures?
One might also try drawing cards from Hobbit Tales and use them to create an adventure (Much like in the game). I haven't tried that, but it certainly would work for that. I also highly recommend the Wilds Adventures rules by jamesrbrown for coming up with ideas.
Re: A source for new adventures?
I actually LMed a game that followed somewhat closely the Voice of Isengard expansion. Since I own the old MERP "Lorien and the Halls of the Elven Smiths" sourcebook, I combined the two to expand on the whole "find Celebriombor's forge" thing. It turned out to be great fun!

Just curious… what is it you find difficult about playing solo?zedturtle wrote:Cool. I have the base set, but never bought any of the expansions... I have a hard time playing solo, and haven't found a reliable partner.

The starter decks admittedly are pretty lame (the Tactics starter deck is completely unplayable solo). But do you struggle to build your own decks?
Re: A source for new adventures?
With no one to bounce rules questions off of, or to talk to, it just seems like a hard thing to get into. I start thinking about all the more productive uses of my time and pack it up.

Re: A source for new adventures?
I get the cards in the order they were released, but I can't wait to go on an adventure with Elrond and his two sons. I guess the initial Threat will be very high, but they will plow through just about every adventure.

Re: A source for new adventures?
Aside from high threat and few threat mitigation cards between their three spheres, their other challenge would be lack of Treachery cancellation (Song of Travel would be needed to play A Test of Will). Would definitely be an interesting deck if played in combo with a second player/hand… perhaps Aragorn (with Celebrian's Stone), Galadriel and/or Legolas or some Dunedain heroes for thematic purposes?Ferretz wrote:I get the cards in the order they were released, but I can't wait to go on an adventure with Elrond and his two sons.
