Other companies\Fellowships apart from Bilbo and Frodo's
Other companies\Fellowships apart from Bilbo and Frodo's
Hi everyone,
i tried looking on other forums and online but could not find any info on other companies\fellowships apart form Bilbo and the dwarves and the ring fellowship.
There is reference to elves companies leaving Rivendell on quests but nothing more.
Could you please point out any references to other companies of heroes in tolkien works?
Thank you for the help.
N.

Well, Túrin and the outlaws would sort of count (depending of your definition of hero). Beren and Finrod lead a company, but when Luthien arrives as the rescue party only Beren remains alive.
I certainly think that companies are appropriate, if you're looking for textual justification.

Aragorn, Elladan and Elrohir spend a bunch of time grinding orcs for xp and revenge.
Faramir's Rangers of Ithilien might also count.

Balin might well be considered to lead a company in the retaking of Moria.

There is the Grey Company in RotK. And I wonder if the White Council would meet your criteria? It did take action against Sauron at Dol Guldur.

White Council as a Fellowship is an interesting idea.
Model for high level play, maybe?

After the War of the Ring, Aragorn, Eomer and Imrahil (and maybe Faramir) would join once in a while to make war against Southrons and Easterlings. Of course, they met as the leaders of their armies, but maybe they can be consider a group of friends that unite to face a common threat to their lands and beloved people.

Possibly Isildur and his sons on his return journey after the war.
Aragorn is sorta a one man company during his errantries

Uao!
Thanks a lot for the replies!!!
Yes they all seem to fit and answer my question!
I'll have to recheck my Silmarillion and LOTR copies for those!
I'm looking for references in the Middle Earth history and culture, for personal knowledge (possibly also for inspiration for possible campaigns\sessions based on retracing historical companies journeys).
All the listed examples are of great help.
Thank you all very much!

Beleg and Turin by the First Age, would qualify.zedturtle wrote:Well, Túrin and the outlaws would sort of count (depending of your definition of hero). Beren and Finrod lead a company, but when Luthien arrives as the rescue party only Beren remains alive.
