I enjoyed listening to this episode alot. Great stuff.
Re: Youtube AP of our DoM: TOR Group
Thank you both, and all of you who listen. I am glad you two are enjoying it (and presumably others as well)
I am really excited about where the players will take this campaign. I am currently working on the possible end game for them: Taking Back the Grey Delve. I am working on figuring out how to use the Board Game Risk to emulate the siege. I am stoked.
But no game this week. On the plus side I just realized that with 8 episodes out there is about 24 hours of gaming to listen to for any one who would like. Wow. We have spent a lot of time in this campaign!!

Hi damiller,
Started listening to the recordings last week and really enjoying them. Always very interesting to hear similarities and differences in terms of LMing styles. I especially like your roleplay and that of your players, very entertaining and "in character", and the way you seem to use elements from Heart of the Wild into your own adventures (the wild hobbit character is really cool).
One thing which struck me on the first broadcasted episode : you seem to ask your players to do a lot of "practice rolls" during travels, apparently mostly for the sake of earning APs and not necessarily linked to your main narrative : is this a conscious choice and how did that come out (from you or the players) ? Aren't your players accruing too many APs with this approach and becoming too strong ? I personnally only allow rolls during travels if it fits a specific purpose linked to the main story (hunt, track, explore, etc.) but maybe I am too restrictive.
Thanks for sharing these !

Hey Tom
thanks for the feedback and glad you are enjoying the episodes. We are having a blast playing them. And my favorite parts are the roleplaying!!!
As for practice rolls.
By the book you appear to be more correct: Practice rolls are for things "related" to the mission. Although it is not written that clearly in the book it is rather heavily implied, as far as I remember.
But we were a bit liberal with the interpretation, for two reasons: One it is really hard to raise skills. Yes one of the dwarves does have a 4 in like two skills now. But he sucks in most other things and both of those skills were "high" to start with. Two: I can't imagine HOW slowly the characters would advance otherwise. Without me calling for tons of skill checks (partly because we are role playing mostly) there just isn't the opportunity to roll the dice. So travel is the one place they get a chance to practice the skills that they find important. Though you will see that doesn't last for long.
With our previous characters we did a ton of traveling for the first couple of months of actual play, then hardly ever traveled that much again. Once they find a center to "play" in, they almost never leave since they are invested in what is going on there.
So all in all, yes they probably do advance faster than intended by the book, but they are heroes, I want them to feel like heroes and if you listened to last nights episode it doesn't seem to matter how powerful you are in TOR, if you are out numbered you are going to have a rough time of it.
