Music??
Re: Music??
Lots of Skyrym Music and some of the War in the North game music on Soundcloud. I also have used some of the music from The Lord of the Rings Online, a lot of which is also on Soundcloud. Some of the Music from the Dragon Age games is good too.

Related: anyone play online? Are there any tools for piping music and/or other ambient audio into your games you've had success with? A Hangouts plug-in would likely be the most convenient.

There is a plugin for Teamspeak as well.
Re: Music??
I've put together quite a few tracks from a variety of sources, but one of my favorites is World of Warcraft. The game can be freely downloaded, and the in game tracks are fairly simple to extract from the game. They're also easy to sort into themes, and they tend to lead back into each other nicely. I've pulled them out into appropriate folders (woods daytime, river nighttime, Dale, Mirkwood- you get the idea). In addition, I also download environmental sounds, usually from youtube, and pull the audio from the files- sorting them the same way. Those tracks are great, and often span as much as a couple hours meaning I can start them, and forget them. Adds nice mood, and is easy to play in the background. If you're interested, send me a PM and I could share some of the folders with you so you can give them a listen

Re: Music??
I am doing quite the same thing as arthyn. I use a German program called "RPG Soundmixer". The program plays previously installed sounds randomly and you can define how often the sound should be played, the sound level, delay.... The program is intended for "live" usage, during a session. I however do not use this program as intended but record tracks with it, that are 10 - 20 minutes long. I have a soundscape for example for battle, or for a city market, for a thunderstorm.... so that the players can hear what I describe.
In addition I have done the same thing as arthyn and put dozens of songs from different bands and soundtracks into folders which I play at the appropriate time. I have for example a folder for creepy music, music for sitting at the camp-fire, city music, positive music for love scenes..., battle music.....
Send me a PM and I will be happy to send you my lists.
