Hi all, this topic was partially discussed in the thread concernin the Lamp of Balthi, but as a LM I have a few questions...
1) "Common" elven lamps are the lesser version of the "Lamps of old" (such as Amon Lanc lamps) but do they work in a similar way? I.e. do they contain an enchanted crystal glowing at will?
2) Can elven players own one of these lamps and use it during adventuring phase? May be they can receive one of them when rising their standing or living standard among the wood elfs? or
3) Do you think such a lamp should be acquired by players as a woundrous item?
Thanks in advance for your contribution
In many situations light plays a critical role (enemies with fear of the fire o denizen of the dark abilities) and I don't like players owning endless torches just because of their standard of living.

Re: Elven Lamps: availability and in-game use
There are already some rules in place that, at least partially, address this. In the Heart of the Wild pages 79-80, there are rules for expanding the Mirkwood Elfs Wood-Elf Magic Virtue by studying with Ormal the Lampmaker. One of the expansions replaces the Elven-Lights portion of the virtue with a lamp that has some additional properties to the base Elven-lights.
“War must be, while we defend our lives against a destroyer who would devour all; but I do not love the bright sword for its sharpness, nor the arrow for its swiftness, nor the warrior for his glory. I love only that which they defend.” ~ Faramir

Yep, one of my Mirkwood Elf PCs now has studied under the Lampmaker and has one of these lamps. He now only has to light it once per adventure, and it is "always on".
Tale of Years for a second, lower-level group (in the same campaign).
