Shadow Test Frequency.

Post by aikidragon » Mon Aug 17, 2015 4:41 pm

I have the Revised Hardcover Edition of The One Ring. It seem to indicate that corruption tests should only be made when entering a corrupted area. However, I seem to remember reading somewhere that corruption tests should be made during a journey. I remember that the frequency was set to something like once a day which seems a bit harsh to me as you would get so much shadow so fast you couldn't ever really reduce it.

Am I remembering wrong or has something changed with the new edition?

Corruption tests should be rolled once every week/day/whatever the chart says while the characters are in a place the Loremaster declares is blighted. A dark patch of Mirkwood is not automatically blighted; a dark patch of Mirkwood filled with giant spiders might very well be blighted. The shadow points will generally only accumulate if the players stick around long enough to keep rolling on schedule.

First off, welcome aikidragon!

I believe Blighted Places was one of those rules that changed (Francesco made some 'clarifications' after the first edition, and it's now cleaned up in Revised).

Page 223 (Revised) gives you a better idea of what kinds of lands are Blighted (it ends up being pretty rare), and there's a chart there to help you as LM figure out which places might be.
Tale of Years for a second, lower-level group (in the same campaign).
