Average AP and XP you award in each session?
Average AP and XP you award in each session?
How many APs and XPs does players get rewarded in one session in your games, in average?
Of Finarfin's children I am the last. But my heart is still proud. What wrong did the golden house of Finarfin do that I should ask the pardon of the Valar, or be content with an isle in the sea whose native land was Aman the Blessed? Here I am mightier.

In a realtime format...
AP earned is up to player rolls and player creativity. The GM only has to approve it. Creative players who use their common skills early and often and don't auto things will gain AP faster then those who aren't creative and play it safe.
XP ...depends. In my online game, we get 1 or 2 XP per week, unless something big happens, then we get 3. We also get a story award at the end of adventures of 4-6.
In the face to face game I participated in, it was One XP per hour at the guy's house, so if we were there for 7 hours...
In play by post, you have to accommodate for a super slow format, so I recommend 20+ XP per adventure.

Wow. I think the most I ever awarded for an Adventuring Phase was 7 XP (or it might have been 9). Of course, I try to be a relentless PbP GM... the story moves forward at regular intervals, regardless of whether everyone has posted, etc. My Darkening game is meandering a bit, just because I've been super-indulgent, and the large number of players.Angelalex242 wrote:In play by post, you have to accommodate for a super slow format, so I recommend 20+ XP per adventure.
Jacob Rodgers, occasional nitwit.

The accelerated rate is pretty necessary. Mostly because what can be done in one or two sessions of face to face or real time gaming take FOREVER in play by post. Many of my play by post games die before I see much, if any, advancement at all.
Re: Average AP and XP you award in each session?
My players usually see themselves getting 5 to 8 advancement points from one adventure. The Loremaster don't have much say in the advancement points as they come from succeeding skill tests. Since one adventure usually is two sessions in our play, average AP per session is almost 3,5.
Our games sessions are usually longer than the assumed normal in TOR. Most of the time we play for about 5 hours. One adventure usually takes one and a half session, with the remaining being used for fellowship phase. I award 2-3 XP for a session when progress has been made but adventure is not finished. And I award an additional 1 XP (sometimes 2) in the session the quest is completed. That means average XP per session is also close to 3,5.

I try to be generous and give 2 points of XP per session, 3 if significant progress was made or good RP was done.
Generally, I want my players to gain 8 points of XP per Adventure, minimum.
I don't think slow advancement enhances the game, whereas slightly faster advancement can add a bit of interest!

Actually, you want to average 12 XP per year. So your 8 per adventure is fine...as long as there's 2 adventures a year. Cause then you just have a fast learning environment.

To my gaming group, the suggested 6 XP per Adventuring phase found in the revised rules adjusts fine. So we are always somewhere between 5-8 XP per adventuring phase.
Advancement points depend much more on each player involvement on the game, but we are somewhere between 9-12 per adventuring phase

For XP, ours is pretty close to what I'd posted previously (as per the link by Falenthal). In recent years it's been about 6-8 per year. That's usually 5-6 for a longer adventure and 2 for a shorter one.
That's just what it ended up breaking down to that one time; usually it's a little less than that, I believe.Angelalex242 wrote:In the face to face game I participated in, it was One XP per hour at the guy's house, so if we were there for 7 hours...
Tale of Years for a second, lower-level group (in the same campaign).
