Hello all,
Having a new character (Dúnedain Culture) join a Fellowship of experienced characters (of the classic Cultures).
Since we've been giving bonus AP & XP to new characters so they can start at the same level as the others in the Fellowship, but that the Dúnedain already start out a bit stronger... I wanted to know if anyone has calculated the approximate AP / XP bonus value a starting Dúnedain has over Hobbit, Beorning etc.?
[Dúnedain Culture] AP/XP diff. w. "basic" cultures
Re: [Dúnedain Culture] AP/XP diff. w. "basic" cultures
No, I haven't, but I doubt is something really possible to do. I mean, their Virtues and Rewards are also arguibly better than those of the normal cultures, but they have penalties (Hope recovery and higher XP advancement cost) that have to be taken in consideration.
My impression, not having Rangers or High Elves in my campaign, is that they're balanced in the long run, although it might not be seen so just at character creation.
I wouldn't give extra AP/XP to the rest of the players to "compensate" with the Rivendell cultures (you didn't propose that, but someone might be tempted to do it), even if the fellowship seems unbalanced at first.

Thanks!
My question is the opposite, actually... I'd say the Fellowship's characters currently have about 26 AP & 26 XP, and I was wondering if that is what I would give a starting Dúnedain to be at the same level as the current characters, or should it be (how much) less?

Id treat the new player the same, and give the same bonuses. The counter for the Rangers and the Noldor, is that the "EYE" is keeping a closer eye on them. Not always a fun thing. This will and should matter ingame. Simply because those 2 cultures has had the fiercest warriors to oppose the shadow for so long.
edit: i see he starts after the others. so he should be given to choice to recieve approx. a third of thier points, or choose to play his character longer with 0 bonus from start. either way, it will work.
Another note: 26 xp and the same amount of advancement points seems weird. Its either too many xp or too little advancement points given. Usually advancement points should be around double the XP. Dont take it as criticism. Im only trying to point out that to me, this seems abit odd.

Okay, thanks a lot for input.
re. XP & AP: it is too much XP and too little AP - I was giving too much XP in the beginning, and they were, at the same time, not trying for AP at all, so was more unbalanced even in the start [more XP than AP], so we're just letting it slowly change [now it's even, and it will start getting to more AP than XP etc.]
