Anyone in San Fernando/LA Region? Start a Game?

Post by crimso » Sat Sep 26, 2015 5:11 pm

I can GM or would be happy to play. I have experience running the system. Just moved to LA and live in Woodland Hills. I can play on week nights and weekend nights.

Anyone up for it in the area?

If you can fly about three hours away every weekend and still consider that "in the region," then we'd be happy to have you. Otherwise... Sorry, but I'm not even in the state. It's way too dang hard to find folks that play tabletop games and that are open to playing new ones.

I'd recommend waiting in the gaming section at your local Half-Price-Books and ambushing anyone that comes by.

Any moment...I got a feeling there is someone in Southern California. Man, you could not be more right. It's D&D 5e or its nothing. I still think TOR is a better system overall.

Just thought about this. If you're good to loremaster, you could probably run dnd 5e with a bunch of 'house rules' that effectively make it really similar to TOR. Like, keep the 'roll a d20 and add modifiers' etc, but maybe condense Str and Dex into a 'new' stat called body, etc. Add something for shadow and hope etc. Not the best solution, perhaps, but a start. You could then slowly transition more and more into TOR.

Every time somebody plays D&D when they could have played TOR, God kills a puppy.

I'm sure there is, but remember that the folks that post on a publisher's dedicated forum is a small subset of those who post on more general RPG forums and those are a small subset of all gamers.

I'd suggest meetup.com; notices at local game stores and sticking bookmarks with your contact info into every all-in-one copy of LotR and The Silmarillion you can find at bookstores.

I might not be serious with the last one. Depends on how desperate you are.

This. I got a game going in my (last) town by posting at my FLGS. We played during a Magic: the Gathering night and got interested people coming by to eavesdrop and ask questions.
