I have one or two players that are interested in this game, but that's about it. Has anyone ever run a game that small? Just curious if it would even work.

One solution, if it isn't a problem for you and your players, is to let them one or both of them play two characters.

I have had this experience. Allowing players to have two characters certainly helps them get through the adventure. In my experience, players in this situation often seem less invested in their characters or become invested in one and treat the other like a NPC. Another solution is to send an NPC or two along to bulk up and balance a small party. Not having a balanced skill set can become a problem.

I've had this experience, multiple characters probably isn't the wisest route to take for reasons described above. Sending along an NPC is an option, or simply have it be a difficult adventure - it can be narratively rewarding. I recently mastered a two-player game happening parallel to our main Darkening campaign, which featured two characters having to travel through the Narrows to what was left of Sunstead - it was incredibly brutal on the two player characters, but the harrowing journey correlated to their surroundings and in the end made for an exciting - if dispiriting for the characters themselves - journey.
