High quality maps?
High quality maps?
I have the "boxed" set, and the map that follows.
But I want to give my players a map, and preferably several maps that overlaps, that has a better feel to it, so they can make notes, and I (as NPC's) can make little notes for them ("look, why don't I mark the cottage on your map?").
I have two choices, as I see...:
1) Buy the map(s) on eBay/Amazon
2) Get a high high resolution map on file, and have some printhouse make them for me.
My problem with nr. 1, is that pretty much all maps I have found suffers from; a) Being of the entire MiddleEarth, including Harad, and why would my players carry around a map with that far away places? b) being on glossy paper (posters), which doesn't have the right "feel" to it.
And problem with nr. 2, is that it's likely to be more expensive, and finding a map with high enough resolution that I can make large maps, of smaller areas while keeping it not looking to much like a print...
The 3rd option is making the maps myself, but it's sadly not an option as I actually suck at drawing, and my patience runs out rather fast. I guess the 3rd option could also be finding someone who's good at drawing, and have them draw the maps from my directions, which would most likely make the maps look even more "authentic".

Re: High quality maps?
Looks like this is what you need, if you can find it:

In this set you have East Gondor, West Gondor, Rohan, the Shire, Mordor and Eregion in parchmeent-like matt finish close to the movie style.
However write on them would be a shame.

Re: High quality maps?
I must say that the map of Eregion from the Decipher set does cover most of Eastern Eriador including Rhudaur, the Ettenmoors, the Weather Hills, the Barrow-downs and the north of Dunland. Once acquiring the maps you could photocopy them for your players.

It is a shame, though, that the set does not cover Mirkwood and Rhovanion, but the designers were more concerned with the regions that dealt more directly with the mission to destroy the Ring. At least those regions are well-covered by TOR.

Check out the link for maps in my sig, those might help you and I can make higher res versions available. Of course, the new map pack will solve these issues, but that's a little ways away.

I have this same box, and it serves well id say.
Re: High quality maps?
The PDF of the original map does print quite nicely at a larger size. I was fortunate enough to have a friend with a large format printer who printed me a few copies at 23 x 30 inches. These work wonderfully. I think I had checked the price of having a store do it and it was somewhere in the range of $10-15 US for each.
Re: High quality maps?
Since the player's map is meant to be written on, I had no trouble printing it on ordinary letter-sized paper using the poster option in Adobe Reader.
Re: High quality maps?
I also use the Adventurer's Map pdf, printed in colour. I have it in A4 normal size, but I think the definition is pretty good, so I guess it would still look good in a bigger size.

On the subject of maps, anyone printed them to a PVC banner?
I was reading an article were someone did it it for their game (not TOR), as the PVC is more resilient and I kinda like the idea.

I know of someone that printed out a Caribbean map for a pirates game on cloth that looked very good indeed. I think he had it done at a local print shop and it wasn't that expensive.
