Ok, I've been struggling for a long time now with reading The One Ring books in Mac Preview. The files are so big, and the pages so full of graphics, that it scrolls very, very badly.
Is there a better/faster PDF reader for Mac? I'd prefer not to put anything Adobe on my computer as my experience has been that their software is all basically malware. Or, at least, very, very badly poorly mannered.
Any other options?

I use Preview, but only in single page mode, never scrolling.
I also use Acrobat DC (the full version, included as part of the Creative Suite or Cloud or whatever they're calling it today). That's better than the previous version and I've never had any problem with excess things being installed (on the Mac at least).
Although I do mostly just use it for occasional reference... all of my hard copies live within arm's reach of the computer anyways.

PDF Expert for Mac was recently released, you may want to look at that. I don't have PDF Expert for Mac, however I too am getting frustrated with the Preview app.

Oooh...shiny. It scrolls much more smoothly than Preview. Too bad it's not free.Kurt wrote:PDF Expert for Mac was recently released, you may want to look at that. I don't have PDF Expert for Mac, however I too am getting frustrated with the Preview app.

Just about everything is better than Preview - even Adobe's Acrobat Reader. Which is what I use.

I don't know if I am just lucky, but all my TOR PDF documents scroll smoothly in Preview on my MacBook (mid 2010). I've never had a problem and they look gorgeous.Glorelendil wrote:Ok, I've been struggling for a long time now with reading The One Ring books in Mac Preview. For my iPad and iPhone, I use Acrobat Reader and I don't think I have ever had a problem other than the pages load slower and I have to wait a few seconds, but nothing too bothersome.
Please visit my blog, Advancement Points: The One Ring Files, for my TOR Resources

Preview will open some files acrobat won't, and vice versa... but Preview mis-renders a lot of the more convoluted things.jamesrbrown wrote:I don't know if I am just lucky, but all my TOR PDF documents scroll smoothly in Preview on my MacBook (mid 2010). One also could go all the way to Ghostscript... but Adobe bought out Aladin Softworks.
