Enemy target numbers in ranged

Post by tigermuppetcut » Sat Dec 12, 2015 4:19 pm

Hi, it's clear a player needs 12 (plus parry etc.) to hit an enemy at range, but what do enemies need? Is it the stance number e.g. 6 for forward, or is it 12 for just attacking at range? Thanks. :)

If the enemy is attacking from Range then it is also 12 + Parry.

If the enemy is attacking in close combat then, by definition, the archer cannot be in Rearward stance and thus will have to choose a close combat stance.

Cf. the rule book, page 183, for an illustrative example. The paragraph starting with "As his final action for the round...". The spider uses Great Leap to attack Trotter, even though Trotter is in Rearward, and the spider's base TN to hit him is still 12.

Thanks, although in that example the player is in rearward so it would be 12. I need to know what an Orc, say, would need to shoot a player character in a forward stance in ranged?

Ah, sorry. The Orc still uses the character's stance. Do 6 + Parry.

Adversaries don't choose stances. Whatever the target hero's stance is, that's what the adversary needs to hit.

Are you guys saying that if a hero is in forward stance, an orc archer's TN to hit them would be 6 + the hero's parry? Because that's not right. The TN to hit with a ranged weapon is 12 + the target's parry, regardless of what stance that target is in. See p175 of the rulebook, near the bottom of the left column.

Oh, the orcs are firing missiles. Yes, their base TN is 12, no matter the hero's stance.

Yes, sorry, I still wasn't reading your question carefully. All ranged attackers have a base TN of 12.
