EE The Hobbit BotFA

Post by Hermes Serpent » Sun Dec 27, 2015 2:53 pm

Watched the Extended Edition of the Battle of the many. many armies over Xmas and was delighted to see a war pig, goat chariots (which I'd only previously noticed in a trailer) and a number of other extras which added a degree of hilarity to an otherwise uninspiring movie, the end of Alfrid being particularly apt. The addition of Thorin's funeral and the slightly extended Bilbo's Homecoming sequence were nice touches that showed that at least someone had read the book rather than writing the script from a LotR MMO log.

Well, Dain's battle-pig was in the theatrical cut as well -- and I could have wished that it had looked more fierce rather than like a domestic pig.

I haven't seen the Extended Edition yet. Is it true that the Bot5A EE is rated R (in the US) due to violence?
Tale of Years for a second, lower-level group (in the same campaign).

Yes, largely to [SPOILER WARNING] a chariot scene that includes a fair amount of carnage [SPOILER ENDS].

Ooh...I hope it's a direct tribute to Ben Hur, as was the pod racing scene in The Phantom Menace.

The Extended editions of the movies are better overall, but the Battle itself is way too long - this is a problem with combats in all PJ's movies, but he has got worse over the years - he seems to think that the audience likes to watch nearly two hours of fighting! And yet they left out good scenes like Thorin's Funeral, go figure!

He badly needs a decent editor who can tell him 'Cut It'!

Depends on whether his goal is to please a handful of Tolkien zealots, or make gazillions of dollars.

No dollars, no film, and no movie for Tolkien zealot.
Nothing of Worth.
