A question - The Folk moot at Rhosgobel
A question - The Folk moot at Rhosgobel
Why is Mogred saying to Amaleoda that he is protectiing her and her folks when his domain are far away to the south and her domain is very close to Rhosgobel and second why would the trade route between Black Tarn and the Sunstead be cut off by Mogred? When I look at the map I get very confused. Black Tarn is located 20 miles to the east of Rhosgobel and say about 80-90 miles from the East Bight and finally 50 miles to the north of Tyrant Hill. Please help me out here.
Re: A question - The Folk moot at Rhosgobel
Okay, here's a simplified map:
So Mogdred is saying that he is protecting both the Black Tarn and Rhosgobel from Fenbridge Castle and Dol Guldur. He's also protecting the trade routes through the Narrows of the forest by preventing the orcs and what-not from coming north to raid.
He's also boasting, and full of himself.

Yes and thays a very large area to defend from the Dark forces.... we are talking Mirkwood with darkness and overgrown paths. I cant see them managed that. Its not like the plains south of Dale where you can travel fast with horses.

Re: A question - The Folk moot at Rhosgobel
Given Mirkwood is about the size of England, isn't that a bit like saying a handful of thugs in Gloucester will protect London from Winchester?
Re: A question - The Folk moot at Rhosgobel
I'd say it's more like the thugs are in Swindon* and have established a check-point on the M4. Sure, the orcs in Gloucester can still reach London, but it's a bit harder for them.
And, as always, Mogdred is boastful and overly self-important.

If they're in Swindon, are they using the Magic of Roundabouts to confuse the orcs and send them in wrong directions?zedturtle wrote:I'd say it's more like the thugs are in Swindon* and have established a check-point on the M4. Re: A question - The Folk moot at Rhosgobel
Three things to keep in mind:
1. Look at where Tyrant's Tower is, though. It's right between Dol Guldur (fallen, but still the centre of Shadow in Southern Mirkwood). Any evil coming north out of the fens is going to pass by the Tower. Mogdred can choose to just protect his own, or he can intercept orcs and other fell creatures that might otherwise trouble Black Tarn or the paths to Sunstead.
2. Mogdred's men are considerably more warlike than the average Woodman. Like him, they've got orc-armour and military training. They're warriors and brigands, not hunters.
3, and this is the important one, his offer is basically "nice Woodman village. Shame if anything happened to it?" The protection he's offering is largely "pay me, honour me, give me tribute and I won't raid you." He's dressing it up in honour and diplomacy, but he's pretty much extorting the Woodmen who hope to expand beyond their current territories.

Exactly. He is right in the path between Evil force and Woodmen. Given the scarcity of man forces everywhere in Mirkwood, he is not to be trifled with.
Nothing of Worth.
Re: A question - The Folk moot at Rhosgobel
I can see them cutting off routes but IT is still heck of an area to cover. Yup true he is a bragger haha. I also got that IF he mess to much with the Dark Forces they with turn their attention to him and his merry men and start to attack him on a regular basis. Damn its tough to live in Mirkwood. They all really need to unite.
