I can't wait to play a Dunlending! Why would anybody want to play a thieving forgoil....pfft.Southron Loremaster wrote:I have been very impressed with this supplement. The only thing better than a Dunlending Hero is an all-Dunlending FellowshipGlorelendil wrote:I can't wait to play a Dunlending! I wish there was a template guide outlining Ent attributes and guidance on building NPC's like the Erebor supplement had for Dragons.

Interesting notion. Since players aren't meant to actually kill Ents that would probably have less mechanical utility than it does for Dragons, but it could still be fun.EntofFangorn wrote:I wish there was a template guide outlining Ent attributes and guidance on building NPC's like the Erebor supplement had for Dragons.

True, but it would be nice for scaling purposes but also if an Ent patron or a Huron for that matter encounters a Troll. Also, I imagine as Treebeard mentions there are Ents that likely have black hearts. In my mind, Ents are on par with Dragons, at least in terms of physical strength. From a pure physical output, I actually consider them the strongest things in ME. I have thought about modifying the Dragon template to come up with something similar.Glorelendil wrote:Interesting notion. Many of us play TOR such that "non-player good guys" never actually roll dice. Stats are there only to give the LM a sense of an LMC's strengths, weaknesses, and personality.EntofFangorn wrote: True, but it would be nice for scaling purposes but also if an Ent patron or a Huron for that matter encounters a Troll.
E.g., if Gandalf is with the heroes and a band of orcs attack, the LM simply narrates how Gandalf blasts and smites a few of them each round, while the heroes roll dice on their turns.
Look, for example, at the various "NPCs" that heroes get via Virtues: Hound of Mirkwood, the family retainer for Lakemen, or the squire for Riders from Rohan: none of them actually get their own attacks, they just modify rolls/rules for the heroes.

I agree in most everything you state. I believe there are probably black hearted Ents in Fangorn and for the same reasons the Dragons were statted, I would have liked it. We do get it for Beorn in he core handbook after all.Glorelendil wrote:Many of us play TOR such that "non-player good guys" never actually roll dice. Yes, they are the Huorns you find stated on pages 127 and 128 (one of them is even called "Dark-Hearted Huorn").EntofFangorn wrote:I believe there are probably black hearted Ents in Fangorn
Aren't those opponents what you were looking for?

Certainly Hurons, but I would also think not all Ents were benevolent like Treebeard.

Re: Horse-lords of Rohan discussion
If I were calling the shots at C7 and this topic came up, I think I would decide that it's conceivable an LM would want an actual Ent, not a Huorn, as an adversary, but it's far enough from mainstream that it's not worth using up precious pages to go into depth on how to do it.
That said, it sounds like an excellent fan project for the House Rules sub-forum. I'd read it.
