OMG aren't you guys done reading it yet? Let's get this conversation GOING....
What culture for your next hero? Rohirrim or Dunlending?

Dunlending, in service to the most wise of the Wise, Saruman.

Just finished giving the book (well, most of it anyways) a precursory read-through. Love the new art and was impressed with just how in-depth the historical segments are. I like how Thengel's character was expanded upon and his motivations/history were made clearer.
Also, the sections about Dunland and Isengard are going to be immensely helpful. I have a player that actually "plays a Dunlending" (based on Woodman culture stats) that is in secret service to the White Hand, so it will be nice to have an official way to build off this background/heritage. The cultural blessing of Dunlendings is particularly nice, and if I had the chance to make a new character I'd pick Dunlending hands-down (but alas, I am fated to be the LM for the foreseeable future. Both a great blessing and a curse.
)
I additionally liked the bestiary. While I was a little disappointed that some creatures got full-color pictures and others just sketch-drawings, I am overall happy with the diversity of the creatures presented. I especially like the Huorns and may have to employ some of them in my
Darkening campaign soon...

Yeah, true be had I'm not actually going to be able to play a Dunlending, I am perpetual LM too.
The huorns were a lot of fun. I wish that the creature hinted at on page 82 got a write-up. Maybe some day.

Oooo, especially that very last bullet point... I can't even imagine the stats for something like that.

The Rohirrim had always been a favorite of mine,
but the Dunlendings are GREAT. They got a lot of "character", so to speak
They really capture the idea of the doughty underdog: it's hard to not root for them.

Yep. I think that this book is absolutely awesome, mostly because of the different kinds of stories that we can now tell: we can do political goings-on inside Rohan as Thengel tries to reassemble the kingdom, we can do war stories on the Dunland front, we can tell the other side of that conflict, we can try to redeem Saruman (or fall with him), we can try to rouse the Ents. There's a TONNE of stuff to do!

I can.
