The Lord of the Rings: Tales of the North (Online Epic)
Re: The Lord of the Rings: Tales of the North (Online Epic)
Hello,
this sound pretty intereseting and I'd like to join.
But As James Harrison I'm more interested in post format. Due to time zone difference and maye availability I could join in others formats but depending on time table.

I don't think I'll be running this first game as a play-by-post - I've found that they tend to fall apart quicker because of post delay. So, I'd prefer to have this first game as a live session via Skype or other software.
However, if I have enough interested - 4 at the least - I will consider a second game that is play-by-post.

There seems to be 3 ( Myself, Mr. Nidnan, and James Harrison) interested in play by post and perhaps 4 as lotr_nerd has yet to say which style he might prefer.

I'd still like to at least find enough players for my voice game first, as I have a player who has been waiting to play. I will note down each of your interest, however.Southron Loremaster wrote:There seems to be 3 ( Myself, Mr. Nidnan, and James Harrison) interested in play by post and perhaps 4 as lotr_nerd has yet to say which style he might prefer.

If the game comes about, I would like to play a Ranger of the North.Curulon wrote:I'd still like to at least find enough players for my voice game first, as I have a player who has been waiting to play. I am interested playing in the voice game I just need to know when it is and what medium we are using.

Yeah! well I totally understand the reticence to play post game, as myself didn't find it so interesting. Skype or live sessions sound interesting and exciting. That said, beeing on UTC+1... we can have more problems to meet depending on what hours do you plan to meet

Why not do both?
PbP games should be treated as what they are - a slow but very rich gaming experience more like collaborative fiction than traditional table-top gaming - instead of a chat session. If you have your weekly voice games over Skype, then you could also join a PbP and usually have at least one or two other gaming experiences per week.
Myself, I'm in that place beyond the edge of nowhere on a satellite connection, so PbP is really my only answer, so I've joined a few of them on different venues. That way at least a few times a week something is happening in one of them and I can spend the days in between thinking about my next move or narrative.
Not everyone's cup o' catsup, but they (PbP) can be very rewarding!

If you're looking for a good site to host a play by post game, I'd suggest RPOL.net. It allows players to make profiles with descriptions and portraits for their characters in each game, so you don't forget who is who. If this game is going to be in a play by post format, then I'd love to play. I don't have the time to do a sit down, "face to face" type game these days, unfortunately.

One of our players had to bow out so we have an opening for one more player! PM or post here if you're interested!
