This is exactly how I feel. I absolutely adore the TOR product line and always speak very highly of it to anyone that asks, and as a fan of Tolkien's works I'm highly impressed with the quality of its content. This news is very exciting, but I am seriously worried about the long-term health of The One Ring line, given the already-slower-than-promised release schedule. I suppose time will tell if those fears are valid or not.timb wrote: I have real mixed feelings. It sounds great, so yeah, love the idea. But you have really struggled to get TOR content out to us (for a number of reasons) and it feels this will be another strain on us getting regular TOR releases.
I want to see all your stuff do well, but sometimes overcommitting can happen before you know it. Gah, sorry, it's just I want to see all the stuff we have known for 1-2 years for TOR already.

Fritz Leiber's world of Nehwon with its city of Lankhmar proved to be a popular setting for D&D for a while and required some adjustments to the basic rules of the game. D&D itself has always been versatile, allowing every style of play from basic dungeon-crawl to high-level political intrigue. I must admit that I'm looking forward to seeing how this turns out.

You're welcome. Although, sending TORn a press release wouldn't be a bad idea either.Jon Hodgson wrote:Awesome, thank you!Otaku-sempai wrote:I just saw this at the C7 homepage and posted about it at the TheOneRing.net forums. I also sent the story over to their news section so you might be getting some more promotion through them.

I was going to post exactly this!timb wrote:I have real mixed feelings. It sounds great, so yeah, love the idea. But you have really struggled to get TOR content out to us (for a number of reasons) and it feels this will be another strain on us getting regular TOR releases.

Already thinly spread resources (both creative and licensing) will now have to be further divided and I think I know where the bulk of the attention will go. This is obviously super-exciting for C7 and I'm very happy for them, but from a personal and utterly selfish perspective I see this as grim tidings indeed.

Very curious how they will match magic in Middle Earth to magic at it's full potential in D&D rules.
And I found this little nugget whilst googling away - http://archives.theonering.net/features ... gygax.html

Yeah, the Middle-earth connections to D&D go way back. The old Chainmail game has its origins in wanting to wargame in Middle-earth.timb wrote:Very curious how they will match magic in Middle Earth to magic at it's full potential in D&D rules.

I don't mean to dissuade your concern for TOR, because I know it stems from the same affection for the game as my excitement. However, I would like to point out that at every opportunity, C7 has provided nothing but support for the TOR line. As an example of this, I urge you to recall a time (not so long ago) when digital products for TOR were removed from the market. Even then, despite rampant fears that the removal of the digital product would spell doom for the line, it only grew stronger and eventually fans were given digital products again.
TOR is a outstanding product. Outstanding products managed by smart, talented people rarely fail.
As others have pointed out, this very well could turn out to be a boon for TOR. If more people are exposed to C7 (and TOR!) as a result of the DnD game, we will only see sales of TOR product grow... which, in turn, leads to the need to add even more talented staff... which, in turn, only means even more TOR products of the quality we've come to expect.
I would like to give the smart, talented, hard-working men and women of C7 their due. The TOR line continues strong under their watch; I'm confident it will continue to be so with the expansion into this new product offering.
Re: DnD® comes to Middle-earth®.
I think this is exciting news! I have faith it will reinvigorate TOR and I'm probably more excited about the forthcoming TOR announcements than this one!
