I'm actually hoping for the PDF to drop at Gen Con :)

My wild guess is that next week PDF sales will go up with print pre-orders and a limited number of print available at GanCon. But I am just guessing. :D

I am really interested to see what they do its this and to see Gandalf's official (okay not official) D&D stats.

I know MERP statted out pretty much everyone in ME (except probably Sauron) and I think had conversation rules to AD&D. Does anyone know what Gandalf converted to?

MERP Statted out Sauron, Melkor (Morgoth) and Ungoliant in Lord of Middle Earth Book I...Also all The Valar, Maiar and elves. And you can convert to AD&D. I wouldn't want to play in a game with stats for Valar.

Well AD&D did have Zeus, Thor, etc. statted out too, so it sort of fit.

In the first editions of Deities and Demigods the major gods had 400 HP max. In 3.5, I think that max HP was approximately 10 times that amount.

That´s really one of the (many) things I absolutely dread about this whole thing. That in typical D&D style they´ll stat up everybody up to and including Sauron, Gandalf, Galadriel, Tom Bombadil etc.

Even now I can see some fraggers (again in typical D&D style) at a con table or some new table of mine beating up poor old Gandalf because they think they´d like Narya for themselves.

Wise man once said: "you stat it, they´ll kill it". These characters should NOT be statted. Ever. And I really, really hope the guys at C7 will at least avoid opening THAT particular can of worms...........*shudder*

...or you could simply play with people who won't do that.

I don't need Eru statted, but neither do I understand the dread/horror/elitism evoked by the possibility.

How will I know at a con or in a (changing) online group? Will there be badges stating "I won´t kill Galdriel"?

Sadly not everybody in the world has the luxury of playing with the same people again and again.

IF one absolutely needs a D&D ME, why not just keep in the spirit of ME and keep some forces to great (and distant) for players to tackle?

Oh, I agree. I don't want to "tackle" Sauron or Melkor or whoever, and stats for those figures are wasted page-inches, in my opinion. But maybe those page inches are what other people want. Other people whose purchases will help make this successful.

Guess what? If you play a D&D game at a Con you are going to be at a table with strangers who like D&D. Even if the setting is Middle Earth they might try to play it like a D&D game, whether or not Sauron has stats. So if that playstyle is so repulsive to you, you should probably avoid playing that game at a Con. Maybe find a nice TOR table instead. (And possibly *still* encounter players who want to steal the ring from Bilbo, blab to the White Council about Elrond, and loot Orcrist from Thorin's tomb.)

Whatever. Anyone who wants to waste neurons being offended by Gandalf stats is free to do so.
