DnD® comes to Middle-earth®.
Cubicle 7 Entertainment and Sophisticated Games have announced plans to make a Dungeons & Dragons® compatible roleplaying series for J R R Tolkien’s legendary fantasy world of Middle-earth, the setting for The Lord of the Rings® and The Hobbit®.
Cubicle 7’s CEO Dominic McDowall said, “We’re all very excited to be building on the success of The One Ring Roleplaying Game and bringing Middle-earth to D&D® players. Uniting two things very close to the hearts of gamers, me included, is very cool – I can't wait for the summer.”
The best selling The One Ring Roleplaying Game will continue as a separate and independent line, with some very exciting announcements coming this week. The new series will be based upon Francesco Nepitello’s highly praised work in The One Ring®, with Francesco acting as creative consultant.
Further details will be released in the coming months, with the release set for Summer 2016.

I'm sure you'll all have a lot of questions. The most important thing to take from this as fans of The One Ring Roleplaying game is this line:

I just saw this at the C7 homepage and posted about it at the TheOneRing.net forums. I also sent the story over to their news section so you might be getting some more promotion through them.

Re: DnD® comes to Middle-earth®.
Could you say if it will share the background of The One Ring (id est the difference will be the ruleset) or if it will be an complety different game, with a different mood ?
And if it may impact the planning of The One Ring ?
(I'm not asking much because I know the answer will be to keep an eye on the website, but I'm curious )
Anyway, I'll buy both. But I prefer The One Ring.

We can't answer in too much detail, but The One Ring has definitely answered a lot of the questions posed by attempting to make a Middle-earth roleplaying game, and we intend to build on that very solid foundation.
It won't affect TOR planning - hopefully more TOR news later this week will explain more about that.
We very much see TOR as blazing the trail, leading the way which the D&D setting will follow.

This is extremely exciting news. Jon, please tell me that you will be doing the artwork for this one. The artwork for The One Ring, under your direction, is one of the reasons that The One Ring feels so much like playing in Tolkien's Middle-Earth.
Also, has anyone else been waiting approximately 40 years for this announcement? I don't mean to overstate this, but this might simply be the greatest announcement in the history of everything.
I am also thankful that this momentous occasion has been entrusted to Cubicle 7, as I have found their work on every licensed title to be nothing less than the pinnacle of human achievement.
Yes, people. Even greater than the discovery of fire, the invention of the wheel, and the creation of the Cool Ranch Doritos Taco shell.

I've just posted the news item from your main site over on the Tolkien Society forums I'll also put it on my kin forum for LOTRO and maybe the main LOTRO forums.
I have real mixed feelings. It sounds great, so yeah, love the idea. But you have really struggled to get TOR content out to us (for a number of reasons) and it feels this will be another strain on us getting regular TOR releases.
I want to see all your stuff do well, but sometimes overcommitting can happen before you know it. Gah, sorry, it's just I want to see all the stuff we have known for 1-2 years for TOR already.

Re: DnD® comes to Middle-earth®.
I suspect that a lot of the already written fluff will not need re-approval by Me-E so it might be quicker to use that and get material out faster. One of the biggest complaints has been that TOR isn't D&D and the 90% of roleplayers who won't consider anything but D&D (and often don't know about much outside D&D and Pathfinder) might go for a Middle Earth flavoured D&D setting with gusto.
Look at Sandy Petersen's KS for a Pathfinder Cthulhu bundle using the figures that he had produced for his board game. People who wouldn't go for the board game (price mostly) will jump at the chance to use Cthulhoid creatures in their Pathfinder game.
Selling the same or very similar stuff to multiple market segments with only minor adjustments to fit the new segment is an old marketing trick.
