Recovering from Travel Fatigue?

Post by GaladrielsHeels » Mon Mar 14, 2016 10:50 pm

I,m a little confused about travel fatigue.

On the one hand, a pc can recover from being weary with a nights rest.

On the other, it states that fatigue condition whilst travelling cannot be recovered from while 'on the road'

Am i correct in assuming that travel phase is meant to only deal with hazard episodes?

Do Lore Masters out there have 'mini encounters' whilst on the road?

Thanks all in advance.

Okay, this is a little bit complex, and I'll try to answer your questions as best I can.
On the one hand, a pc can recover from being weary with a nights rest.
A hero is Weary when their Endurance is equal to or lower than their Fatigue. When you rest for a night (and you're not in a safe place) then your Endurance will go up but your Fatigue will not go down. You're right that if your Endurance ends up above your Fatigue, you're no longer Weary.
On the other, it states that fatigue condition whilst travelling cannot be recovered from while 'on the road'
Right. Fatigue goes down by one point each night when you're in a safe place. So, almost always, Fatigue only increases during a Journey, not decreases.

Journeys represent the whole of travelling. So not just the bad stuff, but the entire process. Hopefully, you'll use the various rolls produced during the mechanical part of the process to get the fluff. "Trotter, you got an Extraordinary Success on that Fatigue Test. Tell me about that." and then Trotter's player gets to talk about how he's whistling cheerful tunes while everyone else is toiling and cursing every root and exposed rock.
Do Lore Masters out there have 'mini encounters' whilst on the road?
Absolutely! Hazards are the things you didn't see coming, but anything that 'needs' to happen on a Journey certainly can. "Don't Leave the Path" from Tales is a great example of how this works... there are planned encounters along the trip and plenty of suggestions for Hazards as well.
Jacob Rodgers, occasional nitwit.

Thanks much Zedturtle

That totally set me straight on Travel! Just because an eye is rolled on a travel test, doesn't mean the character suffers the hazard; they get a roll to avoid it. I,m starting up pretty soon and i,m hoping the pc's get loads of eyes!
