Oh! Another anecdote. There is a tiny piece of territory that isn't on any map. There's a very small gap in the middle. We couldn't find anything on any map of Middle-earth that showed any detail in that region - it's literally blank map. But by allowing that tiny gap it allowed us to fit the stuff on the extreme West of the maps.

I have pondered making a POD card available that would fill the small hole. It'd be blank on one side, hexes on the other.

Eh. The solution is simple enough. Buy two copies!

But, yeah, it's pretty darn sweet how much effort was put into getting it just right.

I think there should be something fantastic there. A lost Elven citadel, or some such. Of course, with the card trick you could put various things on the card, customised for a group's approach to canon.

There is a lot of overlap. As far as I can tell, most of the gaps are at the edges: Dorwinion, the Sea of Rhûn and Khand to the east; Umbar to the south; and, part of Eryn Vorn, and much of Lindon (including the western half of the Gulf of Lune) to the west. Also, we could include the northern portion of the Ice Bay of Forochel and much of the Northern Waste. Beyond those regions we probably run out of sources available to the TOR design team (I assume that The Silmarillion, The Shaping of Middle-earth, and other references that go beyond The Hobbit and The Lord of the Rings fall outside of the license).
